Cowboys Trolled by NFL Fans After Mike McCarthy Retained as HC for 2024 Season
Apparently giving up 48 points at home in a Wild Card Round loss to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers wasn't enough for Mike McCarthy to lose his job.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the Cowboys elected to bring back their head coach for the 2024 campaign.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared a statement from team owner Jerry Jones:

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Given Dallas' 48-32 loss to the Packers that happened just three days ago and the team's recent history of postseason struggles, that decision led to plenty of reaction on social media:
On the one hand, McCarthy's Cowboys finished with a 12-5 record for the third straight season. He is 42-25 with three playoff appearances in four years, which is a stretch of success that many teams would love to have at the NFL level.
However, his tenure has also been defined by failing to live up to expectations in the postseason.
Dallas was eliminated in the Wild Card Round by the San Francisco 49ers to end its 2021 campaign and the same 49ers in the Divisional Round last season.
This season seemed like it might be different when the Cowboys won all of their home games and earned the No. 2 seed in the NFC. That meant they wouldn't have to worry about going on the road unless they faced San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game, which would have been a welcome result given the last two exits.
Green Bay missed the memo.
The Packers jumped out to a commanding 27-0 lead in the first half and were never truly threatened the rest of the way. While the Cowboys made the final score look somewhat more respectable than the game actually was with two late touchdowns, Green Bay was in full control throughout.
Yet McCarthy will have another chance to make a deep playoff run in 2024.
