Warriors Trade Rumors: Andrew Wiggins Linked to Mavericks Ahead of 2024 NBA Deadline

Joseph ZuckerJan 17, 2024

Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins remains on the Dallas Mavericks' trade radar, according to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer.

Fischer reported the Mavs are considering multiple options including the Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam, Charlotte Hornets' P.J. Washington and Brooklyn Nets' Dorian Finney-Smith.

In the case of Siakam, it looks like Dallas has lost out. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Raptors agreed to a trade sending him to the Indiana Pacers.

Seeing Wiggins as a prospective target for the Mavs is a little surprising if only because his value may be at a nadir.

The 28-year-old is averaging 11.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists through 36 games. His 29.6 percent clip on three-pointers is on pace to be a career low and significantly below where it finished in 2022-23 (39.6 percent).

Wiggins is also in the first year of the four-year, $109 million extension he signed with Golden State. When that deal was first signed, it looked like a good piece of business for both parties. Now, it could present a hurdle in any possible trades.

Andscape's Marc J. Spears reported on NBA Today on Jan. 12 one general manager told him succinctly "there's not a lot of value for Wiggins right now."

The Mavericks are 24-17 and fifth in the Western Conference. They're much better off than they were this time last year, but they could still use some reinforcements to help aid in their quest of making a deep playoff run.

Acquiring a two-way forward, especially one with multiple years of team control, would be a great move in a vacuum. If we're talking about the 2022 or 2023 version of Wiggins, then he'd be a no-brainer for Dallas.

When factoring in both his performance and his sizable contract, going after Washington or Finney-Smith would probably be a better value play.
