76ers' Patrick Beverley on Jamal Murray: 'I've Been Locking His Ass Up For Years'
The Philadelphia 76ers locked the Nuggets down in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's comeback win, holding the high-powered Denver offense to just 17 points.
Patrick Beverley, who spent much of that quarter defending Jamal Murray, was not surprised.
"I've been locking his ass up for years," Beverley told reporters after the game.
While said in a typical Beverley-esque fashion, the numbers back up his claim. Murray averages just 15.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 17 career games against Beverley. Those numbers are noticeably down from Murray's career stats, which gives credence to the fact Beverley does have an advantage over Murray.
Of course, it's fair to note Beverley does not defend Murray on every play and defense in basketball is not played in a vacuum. Beverley's teammates certainly deserve some credit for the lack of production.
Beverley may also have wanted to keep his trash talk to himself for at least a couple more weeks. The Sixers travel to Denver to play the Nuggets on Jan. 27, so don't be surprised if Murray winds up showing out in an attempt to get Beverley back for his comments.
