Bill Belichick, Falcons Finish Interview for HC Job; No Contract Reportedly Imminent
The Atlanta Falcons took a step toward hiring a legend.
Atlanta announced it completed an interview with Bill Belichick for its head coach vacancy after the six-time Super Bowl champion parted ways with the New England Patriots this offseason.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported there is "mutual interest" amid "ongoing" conversations, although he added "no deal is imminent."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
He is far from the only candidate, as the Falcons announced they have also completed interviews with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and Ravens assistant head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver.
Yet this is not the first report of "mutual interest" between the NFC South team and Belichick, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler used that same description during an appearance on SportsCenter.
Atlanta is looking for a new head coach after firing Arthur Smith following three consecutive seasons with a 7-10 record. While there were worse teams in the league during that stretch, the team was never able to take the next step and take advantage of a lackluster division.
Belichick is someone who hasn't taken advantage of opportunities throughout his career.
His resume includes six Super Bowl titles and nine Super Bowl appearances. His 333 career victories, including the playoffs, which is behind only Don Shula's record mark of 347. Whichever team hires Belichick will find itself under the spotlight of the record chase with arguably the best coach in NFL history.
If it is the Falcons, he will likely find a way to better use the team's list of weapons.
Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts and Drake London is an ideal combination of skill position players, although lackluster quarterback play and questionable play calling prevented Atlanta from living up to its potential.
Perhaps Belichick will help it do just that in the near future.
