NFL Exec: 'Don't Think Robert Kraft Wants to Be Jerry Jones' amid Cowboys, Pats Buzz
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has had an undeniable role in the wild success the franchise has had in his ownership tenure. Despite this, he doesn't appear to desire more control in the future.
The Patriots parted ways with long-time head coach Bill Belichick last week and installed Jerod Mayo as the next head coach. This was the first coaching change for the franchise in the 21st century and just the third in Kraft's tenure as owner.
While this opens up the opportunity for Kraft to be a more hands-on owner than he had been during the glory years of the Patriots dynasty, Mike Sando of The Athletic reported that is not the direction Kraft desires to go in.

"I don't think Robert Kraft wants to be Jerry Jones," an exec told Sando. "I think Robert Kraft wants to show up on Sundays and watch the team. (Kraft's son) Jonathan might want to be a little more involved. You have to give Robert Kraft credit because he was smart enough to not mess with a good thing. Think of Tiger Woods' golf swing. He had a good thing and then he started messing with it. That is what these owners tend to do."
Belichick's 24-year tenure as head coach of the Patriots saw the team reach the postseason 18 times, the Super Bowl nine times and take home six Lombardi Trophies. 17 of the playoff trips and every Super Bowl appearance and victory came with Tom Brady at quarterback and the run is regarded as one of the most impressive in league history.
The seasons post-Brady were less ideal, with New England missing out on the playoffs three of four times and stumbling to a 4-13 finish in 2023. This led to the change in leadership and will allow for a new era in Foxboro.
Still, it looks like Kraft's role will stay similar as he aims to oversee a successful redemption with Mayo.
