Pittsburgh Upsets Buffalo, Deals Josh Allen Latest Disappointment
3 of 4
The Pittsburgh Steelers are fourth in the NFL in takeaways this season with 27.
Josh Allen, the burly and athletic quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, has turned the ball over 21 times.
It is not exactly what one would consider a favorable match-up for the perennial MVP candidate.
Add to that a snowstorm that has engulfed Buffalo and led to the rescheduling of the game from Sunday to Monday, and you have reason to believe Allen could potentially be a turnover machine in his latest opportunity to get the long-suffering Bills back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994.
Allen played just three games in the regular season in which he did not throw an interception, with the last being the December 17 win vs. Dallas.
In last year's playoff appearances, a Wild Card round win over Miami and a snowy loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at home, Allen tossed three total interceptions.
He is prone to it, the Steelers have a knack for collecting them, and the iffy weather conditions expected Monday create the perfect environment for the upset-minded No. 7 seed.
With a renewed offense guided by quarterback Mason Rudolph, the Steelers will be able to cash in on those turnovers in a way they could not earlier in the season, when that side of the ball struggled mightily.
Is Pittsburgh a Super Bowl team? No, but they scored the best possible match-up in terms of making some noise and advancing to the divisional round of play.
The Los Angeles Rams Play in Super Bowl LVIII
4 of 4
Have the Los Angeles Rams played picture-perfect football this season?
No.
Have they experienced issues offensively and allowed big plays defensively, sometimes to inferior teams?
Absolutely.
They have also won seven of their last eight games, with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, in overtime, on a punt return. If that is not enough, quarterback Matthew Stafford got red-hot in the month of December, tallying 11 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
Second-year running back Kyren Williams eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in just 12 games and scored six touchdowns in the aforementioned month of December while wide receiver Puka Nacua broke the rookie record for receptions (105) and yards (1486).
Rookie Kobie Turner tallied five sacks, Aaron Donald made first-team All Pro honors, and the team rallied from 3-6 to make the playoffs at 10-7.
The offense ranked seventh overall and Raheem Morris' bend-but-don't-break defense made enough plays to win the team games. It is, in some ways, a wonder that Los Angeles is as overlooked as it is entering the Wild Card game with Detroit and looking ahead to the other potential match-ups that await, including a potential showdown with old foe San Francisco.
Especially with Stafford as hot as he is.
In 2021, he entered the postseason and proceeded to have one of the best playoff runs in NFL history, passing for 1188 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions en route to a win in Super Bowl LVI.
They may not be trendy, and some pundits may be overlooking them, but the Rams are an explosive team who can score with anyone and have young playmakers on the defensive side of the ball that can make up for opponents double- and triple-teaming Donald.
The Rams are dangerous. So much so that it should surprise no one if, or when, they represent the NFC in the Super Bowl on February 11.
