Brett Favre: NFL Fans Will Blame Taylor Swift If Travis Kelce, Chiefs Miss Super Bowl
Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre has an idea of who will get the blame if the Kansas City Chiefs don't reach the Super Bowl this season.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Favre believes Chiefs fans will put the team's failure on Taylor Swift if they lose in the postseason.
"If they don't win it," he said, "or get to the Super Bowl, people are going to say, 'That's why.'"
This is, surprisingly, not an unreasonable point from Favre. We've already seen it happen this season from online trolls who think it's easier to blame the famous girlfriend of Travis Kelce rather than talk about what the Chiefs aren't doing well.
The reality of the situation is this Chiefs roster is as flawed as it has been since Patrick Mahomes became their starting quarterback in 2018. Wide receivers have had issues catching passes all season.
Per Jacob Cameneker of the Sporting News, the Chiefs led the NFL in drops (44) and drop rate (6.9 percent) during the regular season. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor had 16 penalties, four more than any other offensive lineman in the league.
Even Kelce hasn't looked like the same level of athlete that he has at his best. This isn't unexpected for a 34-year-old tight end. He was still productive this season with 984 yards and five touchdowns, but his lack of explosiveness as evidenced by a career-low 10.6 yards per reception has put a ceiling on what the offense can do.
None of those issues have anything to do with Taylor Swift sitting in a luxury suite to support Kelce, but rational explanations don't often work for some sports fans.
Despite their issues on offense throughout the season, the Chiefs still have a great chance to make the Super Bowl because Mahomes is capable of making magic happen. They also have a defense that allowed the second-fewest points per game this season (17.3).
Kansas City's quest to defend its Super Bowl title will begin on Saturday night against the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card Game.
