Red Sox Rumors: Jorge Soler Interests Boston in MLB Free Agency Amid Mariners Buzz
The Boston Red Sox may need to open up the wallets in order to sign slugger Jorge Soler.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Red Sox are in the mix for Soler but are at risk of being outbid by other franchises.
"Though the Red Sox have checked in on Jorge Soler, there's suspicion they will be outbid again, perhaps by the rival Blue Jays," Heyman wrote. "The Mariners also looked at Soler, but are seen as less likely."

Soler had a breakout 2023 season that saw him be named to the All-Star game for the first time in his career. He hit .250 with 36 home runs and 75 RBIs and helped lead the Miami Marlins to the postseason. He opted out of his $13 million option with the Marlins in order to test free agency and is a top power-hitter option on the market.
He also has won two World Series titles in his career and was the 2021 World Series MVP with the Atlanta Braves.
The Red Sox have a crowded outfield heading into 2024 and adding Soler would likely signal moving one of them. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the team is "listening" to offers about Masataka Yoshida but that a trade doesn't seem likely.
Boston has also been outbid multiple times this offseason, with notable examples being pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and outfielder Teoscar Hernández. The Red Sox are projected to be under the luxury tax in 2024 even with an additional signing.
Heyman reported that the team could also re-sign Justin Turner or bring back J.D. Martinez, Tommy Pham or Kiké Hernandez.
