76ers Rumors: Tyus Jones Trade Unlikely to Be Pursued at 2024 NBA Deadline
Although the Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly looking for backcourt help, Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones doesn't appear to be on the team's radar (per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports).
"Philly has been conducting due diligence on various point guards available for the trade market — although Tyus Jones doesn't seem to be a target to keep in mind for the Sixers, sources said."
Jones is averaging 12.6 points and 5.5 assists per game in 37 starts for the Wizards this season. The 27-year-old is also scoring at an extremely efficient level, with his 52.6 field goal percentage and 43.1 three-point percentage both representing the highest marks of his career.
His individual success hasn't been enough to elevate Washington's roster, as the Wizards currently hold the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 6-31 record. With Jones set to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of the season, it makes sense for general manager Will Dawkins to move the remainder of his contract in exchange for future assets to help the team rebuild.
One of the reasons that the 76ers' front office doesn't view Jones as a potential target could be the asking price, as Fischer noted that Philadelphia is "not in any rush" to trade away draft picks that were acquired in the James Harden trade.
In the Harden deal with the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 30, the 76ers acquired a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, a protected 2026 first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder, two second-round picks, and a 2029 pick swap (via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski).
Philadelphia could be saving its assets for a player such as former All-Star Dejounte Murray, with Fischer revealing that the 76ers are expected to "engage" with the Atlanta Hawks in trade talks for the point guard.
