Bill Belichick's Next Landing Spot Debated by NFL Fans After End of Patriots Tenure
As part of a time-honored tradition of sports fans debating various scenarios, the discourse about Bill Belichick's next destination has officially begun.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Reiss, Belichick and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft came to a "mutual decision" to part ways in a move that's expected to be made official on Thursday.
The decision ends Belichick's historic 24-season run with the Patriots that included 296 wins between the regular season and playoffs, nine AFC titles and six Super Bowl victories.

But the move doesn't appear to signal the end of Belichick as an NFL head coach. ESPN's Dan Graziano cited the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders as the "most likely" landing spots for the 71-year-old.
The Falcons have taken plenty of big swings in the past, but they've yet to hit the home run when it comes to landing a marquee head coach when they are available.
There was a mixed response from fans of both the Falcons and Commanders to the idea of Belichick potentially being hired by their team.
There are currently eight teams in the market for a new head coach going into next season. The Falcons, Commanders, Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee, Titans and Las Vegas Raiders will have someone new patrolling the sidelines.
If we assume Belichick's top priority will be to find a situation where he can compete for a playoff spot right away, that would likely rule out the Panthers. Every other team can at least make an argument to be competitive in 2024 if a few things break in their favor.
Belichick is only 15 wins away from surpassing Don Shula's NFL-record 347 victories. He was the second-oldest head coach in the league this season at 71. Pete Carroll, who was removed by the Seahawks on Wednesday, is seven months older than him.
Even though the past few seasons have diminished Belichick's standing, he has multiple decades of success as a coach dating back to his time as an assistant with the New York Giants in the 1980s.
There will be teams that line up to make their best offer to Belichick. He just has to figure out what he wants from his next job after essentially steering the ship in New England since 2000.
