NBA Trade Rumors: Hawks 'Open to Almost Anything' amid Dejounte Murray Buzz
The Atlanta Hawks have tried many different roster permutations around star point guard Trae Young. Don't expect the tinkering to end ahead of February's NBA trade deadline.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski wrote Wednesday on Threads that he thinks "the Hawks are open to ALMOST anything at the trade deadline, but there's no question that they've gone as far as they'll probably go on Dejounte Murray's pairing with Trae Young in the backcourt. They're talking Murray deals—and others—throughout the league."
The Young-Murray pair hasn't worked out as expected for the floundering Hawks (14-21). In the 774 minutes the pair has been on the court together this season, the team is being outscored by 4.4 points per 100 possessions, per NBA.com.
The offensive side hasn't been the issue, with the team having a 115.7 offensive rating when the duo shares the court. But the defensive rating is an atrocious 120.1. One of the thoughts behind adding Murray was that he would help cover up some of Young's defensive deficiencies, but that simply hasn't panned out.
Something needs to change in Atlanta, and likely soon, or the Hawks are going to dig themselves too big a hole to escape and miss the postseason entirely.
