Jayson Tatum on NBA's L2M Report for Celtics' Loss to Pacers: 'This Was Some BS'
Celtics star Jayson Tatum has responded to the NBA's L2M report from Monday's game against the Indiana Pacers, and he isn't happy given the 133-131 loss dropped Boston to 28-8 on the season.
"Well this was some bs," Tatum posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to the L2M report.
With under one second remaining and the score tied at a pivotal moment in Monday's game, Celtics big man Kristaps Porziņģis blocked Bennedict Mathurin's three-point attempt to send the contest to overtime—or so it seemed.
Officials called Porziņģis for a shooting foul and Mathurin went on to secure the win for the Pacers in regulation by making two of his three free-throw attempts.
The NBA's L2M report from the contest stated that the Pacers were incorrectly awarded free throws and that Porziņģis legally contested the shot.
Porziņģis shared his thoughts on the call on Tuesday:
A few seconds prior, the Pacers won a coach's challenge that overturned a foul call on Buddy Hield that would have sent Jaylen Brown to the free-throw line with the opportunity to secure the win.
The L2M report confirmed the call, stating that Hield made "minimal contact" with Brown's head.
Brown shared his thoughts about the overturned call while speaking with reporters after the game:
"I think he obviously hit me in the head. I think they definitely need to do some investigation, that's all I'm going to say. I think that was an obvious one. I've never heard of head, part of the ball. It doesn't make any sense to me."
"I went up and asked like, 'Did I get hit in the head?' [The official] looks me straight in the face and he says, 'No, you didn't get hit in the head.' I'm like, 'OK.' Then you come down on the other end, that cost our team the game. Then you expect us not to be frustrated. We're trying to build good habits. We're trying to win as many games as possible, and we just dropped one because of that."
"I feel like we have the right to be upset. The league should understand. Of course, we're going to say something about it after the game. So I don't think there should be any fines. But I definitely think that one should be investigated."
While the Celtics remain atop the Eastern Conference standings, they hold a slim 3.5 game lead over the second-place Milwaukee Bucks. A win would have widened a little further.
Boston will look to get back on track on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves at TD Garden before traveling to face the Bucks on Thursday.
