National Signing Day 2024: News and Predictions for Top Available Recruits
For the first time since 1997, Michigan football has claimed a national championship. The Wolverines defeated Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night, capping the 2023 season with their title victory.
Now, Michigan can continue to look ahead, refocusing on its recruiting efforts and preparations for the 2024 campaign. It'll be joined by every other program in the country, many of which still have opportunities to improve their incoming class of high schoolers.
Although the early signing period came and passed in December, traditional national signing day doesn't arrive until Feb. 7. Most 2024 recruits have already signed, but some have not yet sent in their national letters of intent. And some haven't even committed to a school.
Here's a look at several standout 2024 recruits who remain uncommitted, along with predictions for where each will land by next month.
Gatlin Bair, 4-star WR
1 of 3
On Dec. 1, Gatlin Bair decommitted from Boise State, ending a near-four-month commitment to the Broncos. The 4-star wide receiver has since turned his focus to two bigger programs: Michigan and Oregon.
Bair, the No. 43 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings, will head to the Big Ten to begin his college career by choosing the Wolverines or the Ducks. The Burley (Idaho) High School standout could be a boost to either program's receiving corps down the line.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball predicts Bair will sign with Michigan. But the Wolverines' national championship may not impact Bair's decision too much, as he told Brice Marich of 247Sports.com that Michigan has "always been that caliber of a team that's competing for a championship every year."
Still, the Wolverines are the slightly better program right now, and they could use another wide receiver in their 2024 class. Expect them to convince Bair to come to Ann Arbor.
Prediction: Bair signs with Michigan
Amaree Williams, 4-star DE
2 of 3
Amaree Williams was originally in the 2025 class, but the 6-foot-4, 215-pound edge rusher decided to reclassify. He's now the No. 193 overall recruit in the 2024 class, and he'll need to choose a school and send in his NLI by national signing day.
Williams, who attends The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Fla., hasn't narrowed down the list of schools he's considering from the 13 he announced in November. And he's only taken one official visit since reclassifying: a trip to Florida State on Dec. 15.
It would make sense for Williams to join the Seminoles. They don't have any 5-star or 4-star edge rushers in their 2024 class, so they could use a boost in that area.
A lot could change over the next month, especially as Williams continues to take visits. But the prediction here is that he'll decide to head to Florida State, staying in state for college.
Prediction: Williams signs with Florida State
J'Marion Burnette, 4-star RB
3 of 3
At one point, it seemed like J'Marion Burnette would be staying in state for college. The Andalusia (Ala.) High School standout committed to Auburn last March, but then he decommitted from the Tigers in November.
Burnette may still end up at Auburn, as he's still considering the school. But he's also looking at other programs, including Arkansas, the 247Sports Crystal Ball front-runner to land the No. 23 running back in the 2024 class per the 247SportsComposite rankings.
There's a good chance Burnette will be heading to the SEC, as he has taken visits to Arkansas, Auburn and Missouri since reopening his recruitment. That's the only safe prediction regarding the 6-foot-1, 220-pound RB.
But it's quite possible the Razorbacks will persuade Burnette to join them, rather than going back to his original commitment of Auburn.
