Warriors' Draymond Green: 'Very Confident' I Can Remove Antics After NBA Suspension
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green told reporters that he can cut out the "antics" that ultimately led to the NBA suspending him for 12 games.
Green also expressed disappointment in himself for letting a host of people down.
Green was initially suspended indefinitely after he struck Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face. Per the league, the suspension took "Green's repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts" into account.
Green has been no stranger to controversy over his career, as Kyle Irving of Sporting News noted.
The most infamous and damaging incident may have occurred during the 2016 NBA Finals, when he was suspended one game after striking then-Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James in the groin. The Warriors ended up blowing a 3-1 series lead.
During a preseason practice in 2022, Green punched Jordan Poole. He was fined but not suspended. Last postseason, Green stomped on the chest of Kings forward Domantas Sabonis.
This season, Green was suspended five games after putting Minnesota Timberwolves big man Ruddy Gobert in a headlock while his team and the T-Wolves had an altercation.
Per ESPN's Alex Kennedy, Green is also the only player over the past five seasons to get 20 or more technical fouls in a single season. He has amassed 147 T's and 20 ejections for his entire career.
Green entered counseling while he was away from the team, and he continued to work with the Warriors and the league, which stated that he "completed steps that demonstrated his commitment to conforming his conduct to standards expected of NBA players."
For now, Green has not made his return to the court as he continues to work his way back into playing shape. But his return will be a welcome sight for a team that has fallen to 12th in the West with a 17-19 record.
