NFL Fans Envision Commanders Hiring Bill Belichick as HC after Ron Rivera Firing
The Washington Commanders' organizational overhaul under new owner Josh Harris is officially underway.
The Commanders fired head coach Ron Rivera and brought in former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers and former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman to help lead the process in finding a new coach and head of football operations, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski.
Harris released a statement saying Magic Johnson will also take part in the committee:

Myers, who does not have NFL front-office experience, is reportedly set to "lead" the search. Spielman will help guide the process, with Harris also having input. Harris and Myers have a relationship from their days working together in NBA circles.
While most Commanders fans are merely happy to be starting anew with Harris amid years of chaos under former owner Dan Snyder, some already have a major coaching target on their wish list: Bill Belichick.
Belichick's future with the New England Patriots is up in the air after a disappointing 4-13 season. It's become increasingly expected that Patriots owner Robert Kraft will move on, though it's unlikely Belichick will be fired outright.
A mutual parting of ways could allow Belichick to immediately explore the coaching market, and Washington has long been viewed as a potential contender. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Harris is "enamored" with the idea of hiring Belichick, though he did note it's uncertain whether the Commanders owner would be willing to cede full organizational control over to the 71-year-old coach.
Belichick's poor drafting in recent years has been the biggest reason for the Patriots' struggles, with New England whiffing on first-round picks dating back more than a decade. It seems unlikely Harris would hire prominent names like Myers and Spielman only to turn around and hire an obvious candidate like Belichick to run the organization.
If Belichick wants to continue coaching and the Commanders job appeals to him, it would likely only be as a head coach. Washington has the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft and can't afford to hand the pick over to someone with Belichick's shaky personnel calls in recent years.
That said, one surefire way to win over fans and signal a new era is to hire the biggest name possible.
