The Most Boring and Exciting Picks For WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Match Winners
The Royal Rumble is traditionally one of WWE's biggest and most exciting shows of the year, thanks to the unpredictability of the event's same-titled matches.
Whoever emerges victorious in the men's and women's contests dictates the direction top storylines will go in the weeks leading into WrestleMania and also informs fans of whether they should stick around for the journey.
The WWE product is so hot at this point that even the "boring" or "predictable" outcomes in the Rumble matches will still be great, while the more exciting options would return stars who have not competed at the top of the 'Mania card in some time.
Ahead of the January 27 premium live event, these are the choices for most boring and exciting Rumble match winners.
Most Boring Options
1 of 2Men's Royal Rumble: Cody Rhodes
There is a misconception that boring is bad or that predictable is a reflection of creative bankruptcy. That could not be further from the truth, especially in the case of Cody Rhodes.
Since the moment Roman Reigns pinned The American Nightmare at WrestleMania 39 and denied him the conclusion of his story, Rhodes has been hellbent on getting back to that stage and finally taking the title that eluded his father, Dusty.
Rhodes entering and winning the 30-man match is a predictable outcome, one that could have been forecasted as far back as the Raw after last year's WrestleMania but it makes the most sense narratively.
It is the logical outcome of a story that has been told from the moment The American Nightmare returned to WWE and one that the fans have invested in along the way.
Is it the flashiest or most unexpected victory? No, which is why it lands here, but that by no means makes it an unsatisfactory result.
Women's Royal Rumble: Bianca Belair
Bianca Belair announced her entry into the women's Rumble match Friday on SmackDown, informing Damage CTRL that she planned to win for a second time and challenge Iyo Sky for the WWE Women's Championship.
Like Rhodes, it's a story that makes sense, but The EST of WWE has been so one-dimensional from a character perspective for the last year that one can't help but feel underwhelmed by the prospects of that booking choice.
Belair is such a talented performer that the idea that WWE Creative has not had anything of real interest to do with her is disappointing. The slightest development of character, as teased during an exchange with Charlotte Flair last summer, would change that.
Unfortunately, it was dropped and The EST continued to do EST things, to the chagrin of those waiting for her to be involved in something different. Considering the impending debut of Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez, now is the time to do it.
Until then, the idea of Belair winning the women's Rumble has to be considered among the dullest.
Most Exciting Options
2 of 2Men's Royal Rumble: CM Punk
To say CM Punk's return to WWE created buzz and excitement around the product would be an understatement.
It injected life into a WrestleMania 40 build that felt like a foregone conclusion and also brought eyes back to the product that may not have watched since the Chicago native left the company in 2014.
Having declared for the men's Rumble match and already set up an intensely personal feud with Seth Rollins, the stage has been set for Punk to win the 30-man contest and challenge The Visionary for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Like Rhodes, it could be argued Punk winning would be predictable, but the prospect of that Rollins match given the promo exchanges we have already seen is more than enough to make it one of the more intriguing outcomes.
Women's Royal Rumble: Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch last won the Royal Rumble five years ago, jump-starting a run to the top of the professional wrestling world that culminated in her making history as one of three women to compete in the main event of WrestleMania for the first time.
Since then, she has remained a top-tier competitor but has felt disconnected from the top of the card. With the impending release of her autobiography and multiple teases of a showdown with Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship, it feels like it's time for The Man to return to the top.
A win at the Rumble would get her there and pay off the support and adoration the fans have for her on one of the biggest stages WWE has to offer.
