The Argument for Dak Prescott
2 of 3
Dak Prescott threw 32 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in 2023, tallying the second-best completion percentage of his career at 68.4. He tied the second-best quarterback rating of his career (104.2) and he eclipsed 4,000 yards passing for just the third time in his career.
It was a dazzling season for Prescott, who looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the league all season.
He is unequivocally the driving force behind the Cowboys' sixth-ranked offense.
That he had CeeDee Lamb, his 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns certainly helped, but there is an argument to be made that the star wide receiver does not have that season without the stellar Prescott getting him the ball.
The quarterback turned the ball over 10 times, with two fumbles, but he did not make the game-changing mistakes that he has at times over his career.
He guided the Cowboys to a division title and the No. 2 seed, strengthening his case for the individual award.
That he does have a phenomenal wide receiver like Lamb, though, may prove to be detrimental.
Who Will Win?
3 of 3
For the second time in his career, Lamar Jackson will win the league MVP award.
And justifiably so.
Jackson threw 24 touchdowns for the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens, with just seven interceptions, and a career-high 3678 passing yards. He added 821 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground.
He tallied just two lost fumbles, a somewhat remarkable stat for a player who runs as frequently as he does.
His awareness in the pocket improved as he maneuvered around and found his receivers in stride, an element of his game that was most obvious in the 56-19 dismantling of the Miami Dolphins in Week 17, during which he threw five touchdowns.
The entire Ravens offense, fourth in the NFL in 2023, runs through Jackson and his ability to stretch the field with both his feet and arm.
He is the most electric player in the league and as he goes, so do the Ravens.
Hence their status as the No. 1 seed in the AFC and, arguably, the best team in professional football entering the postseason.
