Tyrone Wheatley: Michigan, Raiders HC are 'Dream' Jobs amid Jim Harbaugh, NFL Rumors
Former Michigan running back and current Wayne State head coach Tyrone Wheatley revealed that coaching for the Wolverines as well as the Las Vegas Raiders are currently his "dream" jobs.
"To play there, to come back now to be the head coach, goodness gracious," he said, per TMZ Sports. "To check that off the bucket list, that'd be awesome."
"It would be crazy for me not to say that's my dream job, right?" Wheatley added.
Current head coach Jim Harbaugh won't address any interest in returning to the NFL until the Wolverines play against Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. He's explored with the possibility of coaching at a professional level once again in the past, meeting with the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos to discuss head coaching opportunities in recent years.
With Michigan undergoing a sign-stealing investigation by the NCAA that led to the resignation of football analyst Connor Stalions and a three-game suspension for Harbaugh from the Big Ten, the motivation to accept a job in the NFL could be higher than it has been in the past.
Although Wheatley was only able to lead Wayne State to a 3-8 record in his first season with the program, he has several years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional level. He was the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and as well as the Broncos. Wheatley also held the same position for the Wolverines from 2015 through 2016.
If Harbaugh leaves Michigan in the offseason, the former Heisman Trophy candidate could be an option to take over the vacant position.
