Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 18: Final Fantasy Football Lineup Decisions to Consider
The NFL regular season is nearly complete, and many fantasy football campaigns are over. But that isn't the case for every league.
While most fantasy championships occurred in Week 17, there are some leagues that play an 18-week schedule, meaning more titles will be on the line this weekend. Week 18 begins with a pair of AFC matchups on Saturday, followed by 14 more contests on Sunday.
For fantasy managers in those leagues (as well as daily fantasy enthusiasts), there are some tough lineup decisions to make, as some teams will be resting players ahead of the playoffs. Here's some start/sit advice for the Week 18 action.
Start 'Em: Devin Singletary, RB, Houston Texans
1 of 4
Devin Singletary's workload has been inconsistent this season. The 26-year-old Houston Texans running back has received 10-plus carries in eight games, while recording single-digit rushing attempts in his other eight contests.
But Singletary has been fairly reliable for fantasy managers of late. He hasn't scored a touchdown over the past three weeks, but he had 26 carries for 121 yards in Week 15 and 16 rushes for 80 yards last week (both of those matchups were against the Tennessee Titans).
Houston faces a must-win matchup in Week 18, as it will be going up against the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts on Saturday with a playoff berth on the line. And the Texans' offense has operated well when Singletary is heavily involved.
The Colts are beatable on the ground (114.5 rushing yards allowed per game), so Singletary should have a nice showing. It'd also be a great time for him to end his touchdown drought.
Sit 'Em: Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans
2 of 4
Because Derrick Henry has been among the NFL's best running backs in recent years, it may be difficult to go through with sitting the Tennessee workhorse from fantasy lineups. But that could be the best move to make this week.
Henry has rushed for 42 or fewer yards in three of the Titans' past four games. On Sunday, he'll be going up against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who held Henry to 38 yards on 10 carries in Week 11.
In that previous meeting, the Jags cruised past the Titans for a 34-14 win. There could be a similar result this time, as Jacksonville needs a win to capture the AFC South crown and Tennessee has nothing on the line.
The Jaguars should pull ahead early, the Titans will likely get shut down on offense and Henry won't be much of a factor. So put him on the fantasy bench, if possible.
Start 'Em: George Pickens, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
3 of 4
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a quarterback switch in Week 16, turning to veteran backup Mason Rudolph. It's a move that has greatly benefited George Pickens, making the 22-year-old wide receiver a factor in fantasy lineups again.
Pickens had four catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16, then followed that up by recording seven receptions for 131 yards against the Seattle Seahawks last week. He was targeted 15 times over the two-game span.
On Saturday, the Steelers need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They'll be facing the Baltimore Ravens, who have already clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed and will be resting many of their key players ahead of the postseason.
It's a favorable matchup for Pittsburgh, and it should lead to another big day for Pickens.
Sit 'Em: Curtis Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders
4 of 4
With quite a few teams resting key playmakers this week, you may be looking for running backs or wide receivers to fill the flex spot in your lineup. However, it still isn't a good time to turn to Washington Commanders WR Curtis Samuel.
The Commanders' offense is likely in store for a tough day on Sunday, as they'll be going up against the Dallas Cowboys, who can clinch the NFC East title with a win. It could be a lopsided loss for Washington, which fell 45-10 to Dallas in Week 12.
Samuel had a two-TD performance vs. the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15, but he's been less of a factor the past two weeks, recording four catches for 49 yards during that span. Don't expect much out of the 27-year-old in Week 18 and try to find better lineup options instead.
