Eagles' DeVonta Smith, Darius Slay Out vs. Giants in Week 18 With Injuries

Andrew PetersJan 5, 2024

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without a pair of two key players in their Week 18 bout with the New York Giants on Sunday.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and cornerback Darius Slay will be out for the regular-season finale. Smith is nursing an ankle injury while Slay is working his way back from a knee injury. Smith played in a Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, while Slay has not suited up since the Eagles' Dec. 10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Philadelphia suffered a narrow loss to the Cardinals in Week 17 35-31, marking its fourth loss in five games.

Smith has been a huge part of the Eagles' offense this season, notching 1,066 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The duo of him and A.J. Brown makes Philadelphia's pass attack highly effective when both receivers are on.

For Slay, the veteran cornerback has recorded 57 total tackles and a pair of interceptions this season. Getting him back before the postseason would be huge for the Eagles.

The Eagles have already clinched a playoff berth and the San Francisco 49ers have already earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC, so Philadelphia will be playing for a chance at the No. 2 seed on Sunday. To get the No. 2 seed and win the NFC East, the Eagles would need to win against the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys would have to lose to the Washington Commanders.

With Smith and Slay both out for the matchup, that task will be much more difficult.
