NFL Team Needs: Prioritizing Every Roster's Biggest Weaknesses Entering Week 13

BR NFL StaffNov 27, 2023

There were more days of the week with NFL football than without in Week 12 of the 2023 season. Crossing the Thanksgiving week of football typically marks that real turn to the postseason push; that time when we start to truly separate the good from the bad from the I'm-in-offseason-mode-already.

Every week of the season, we'll assess the state of each roster with a particular focus on its weaknesses. By the end of the campaign, we'll have built a big board for every team based on its biggest needs and wants. Everything from immediate holes to fill to the offseason player carousel of free agency and the 2024 NFL draft is taken into account.

The weaknesses here are not just knee-jerk reactions to the weekend's games, but more an overarching assessment with both present and future roster-building in mind.

All AFC teams are scouted by Alex Ballentine, and all NFC teams are scouted by Matt Holder.

Some of these players have already been highlighted in more detail, particularly the prospects in our 2024 latest NFL draft trends with trade scenarios for the the latest mock. You can also see where the top draft prospects ranked in B/R's NFL Draft Scouting Dept. initial big board ahead of the second edition's publish on Wednesday, November 29.

Further analysis of every NFL roster will publish each Monday throughout the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals

1 of 32
Kyler Murray
Kyler Murray

A tough season for the Arizona Cardinals continues after suffering a blowout home loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

A more competitive game would have been ideal, but Arizona has been playing for 2024 and beyond throughout the 2023 campaign. So, this just continued the tank job, as the Cardinals hold the No. 2 overall pick heading into December.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Defensive Tackle
  2. Cornerback
  3. Center
  4. Offensive Tackle
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: T Isaiah Prince

Rookie Paris Johnson Jr. has struggled this season, and D.J. Humphries has been battling injuries recently, leading to some protection issues for the Cardinals. The last thing the team wants to do is put Kyler Murray at risk after he just returned from last season's torn ACL, so bringing in a veteran offensive tackle as an insurance policy wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also, Prince is only 27 years old, so he may have some future value in the desert if he plays well.

2024 Free Agency: DT Justin Madubuike, Baltimore Ravens

Arizona could use help at defensive tackle as they didn't replace Zach Allen, who left for Denver in the offseason, and J.J. Watt after Watt retired at the end of last year. Dante Stills has been encouraging, but the team could use someone else to pair with him, especially since Carlos Watkins, L.J. Collier, Kevin Strong and Leki Fotu are all impending free agents.

Madubuike will be one of the top players available on the open market at the position, due in large part to his 18 career sacks, including 9.5 through the first 11 games of 2023. He's also been a solid run defender with a good mark in Pro Football Focus' grading system in that department this season.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Troy Franklin, Oregon

There's no question that the Cardinals will have a few needs to address in the draft, wide receiver being one of them. A lot of their wideouts are the smaller, slot types, so Franklin's 6'3" frame could be a welcomed sight in Arizona, and he'd be a good Day 2 target with a second-round grade on B/R's NFL draft big board right now.

"Troy Franklin is a classic wiry speed guy," B/R's NFL draft scout Derrik Klassen said. "At 6'3" and 187 pounds, Franklin is skinnier than you'd like for someone with his frame, but the speed more than makes up for it.

"Franklin is a true outside burner with fantastic long speed and ball-tracking skills. You'd like to see him improve his route-running ability and add a few pounds, but it's easy to see how someone with his explosiveness, speed and ball skills will make an impact in the NFL."

Atlanta Falcons

2 of 32
Jessie Bates III
Jessie Bates III

It wasn't pretty, but the Atlanta Falcons managed to get the job done on Sunday, defeating the New Orleans Saints to take control of the NFC South heading into December.

Atlanta still has plenty of questions moving forward, especially on offense and under center, but it does have a chance to get some breathing room in the division with a game against the New York Jets next week.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Quarterback
  2. Edge
  3. Strong Safety
  4. Left Guard
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: DT Ndamukong Suh

With Grady Jarrett out for the year and David Onyemata banged up, the Falcons could use some interior pass-rushing help. Suh was a quality rusher in Philadelphia during its Super Bowl run last year and he could help Atlanta down the stretch of the season.

2024 Free Agency: WR Laviska Shenault, Carolina Panthers

Cordarrelle Patterson has carved out a good career as the Falcons' "joker" or a hybrid running/wide receiver over the last few years, in addition to contributing as a kick returner. However, he's about to turn 33 years old and is an impending free agent, so the organization will likely look to replace Patterson in free agency.

Shenault shares a similar skill set as a shifty receiver who can also tote the rock. While he hasn't been productive in Carolina, he did have a couple of 600-yard campaigns in Jacksonville to begin his career. Also, the former Colorado Buffalo has a career kick return average of 27.3 yards to help fill his predecessor's shoes.

2024 NFL Draft: CB Cam Hart, Notre Dame

With Jeff Okudah on the last year of his contract, the Falcons could be in the market for a second cornerback to pair with A.J. Terrell moving forward. Hart could be a good middle-round target as he currently holds a Day 2 grade on B/R's NFL draft big board.

"A cornerback with excellent length and size," B/R NFL draft scout Cory Giddings said of the Notre Dame product. "He shows versatility to play in multiple schemes and positions and is a patient defender with a smooth pedal and tech to stay square in press coverage.

"Questionable change of direction and top-end speed to cover shiftier and faster receivers down the field. Hart is a willing tackler but can be lazy at times. But he does show good ball skills and timing to disrupt catches and may serve best in a zone scheme."

Baltimore Ravens

3 of 32
Zay Flowers
Zay Flowers

The Baltimore Ravens kept chugging along as one of the best teams in the league with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. The defense forced four turnovers, while the offense got a promising showing from Isaiah Likely in their first full game without Mark Andrews. Zay Flowers stepped up in a big way with two touchdowns, including the final one to seal the game.

The Chargers' record might not show it, but they are still a good offensive team that the Ravens completely neutralized. The Ravens have had some frustrating finishes in recent years, but this team is playing well right now.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Offensive Guard
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Interior Defender
  5. Running Back

Add Now: DT Matt Ioannidis

The Ravens have established that they are among the best teams in the league. There aren't many holes in the roster, but they are a little thin on the interior of the defense. Broderick Washington was a healthy scratch just last week. Michael Pierce and Justin Madubuike are having strong seasons, but Matt Ioannidis would beef up the group a little bit. The veteran defensive tackle started 13 games for the Panthers last season.

2024 Free Agency: EDGE Josh Uche, New England Patriots

Edge defender isn't among the Ravens' top needs right now, but it could easily become one. The Ravens depend on Jadeveon Clowney and Kyle Van Noy a lot right now; both were free-agent additions on one-year contracts. The Ravens could further solidify their defense as one of the best in the league by signing another pass-rusher to a long-term contract. Josh Uche is not an every-down defender, but he has the potential to be a game-wrecking pass rushing specialist.

He would make a lot of sense as a part of their defensive picture on a multiyear deal.

2024 NFL Draft: IOL Graham Barton, Duke

Kevin Zeitler is 33 years old and John Simpson hasn't really done enough to become a locked-in long-term starter. In other words, the Ravens could need two new starters on the interior of the offensive line within the next season or two. That's a need that should be addressed in the draft. Graham Barton currently plays tackle for the Blue Devils, but a lack of prototypical length will likely kick him inside.

That would be just fine for Baltimore. He has the physicality they need in the run game while showing the feet of a tackle to stick with pass-rushers in protection.

A frustrating season hit another level on Sunday for the Bills. With their playoff odds dwindling, the Bills took a 24-14 lead into the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles and ended up losing 37-34 in overtime.

Their offensive output against one of the elite teams in the league is a reminder of how good they can be. Failing to put the game away and ultimately losing in overtime is a good reminder of that they are the league's most frustrating team.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Edge Defender
  2. Wide Receiver
  3. Cornerback
  4. Safety
  5. Interior Defender

Add Now: WR Marquez Callaway

Many of the Bills struggles on offense this season have come because of turnovers. Josh Allen's ability to create big plays comes with the downside of big plays that go the other way when improvising fails. Much of that is going to be on challenging Allen to take better care of the football, but it always helps to have more receiving talent.

The Bills receivers outside of Stefon Diggs have been inconsistent. Adding a receiver like Marquez Callaway, who is still only 25 with 42 games of experience, could help in that department.

2024 Free Agency: CB Adoree' Jackson, New York Giants

Cornerback play is a volatile asset. James Bradberry is a great example. The Philadelphia Eagles corner struggled with the New York Giants before getting sent to the Eagles, where he was the missing piece of a puzzle that won an NFC championship last year.

Adoree' Jackson could have a similar arc in free agency next offseason. He's struggled this season, giving up a passer rating of 111.6 on the season, but given a fresh start, he could return to his previous form. The Bills need new blood in the cornerback room, so he would make sense as a buy-low candidate.

2024 NFL Draft: DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa

The Bills could certainly use another young playmaker in the secondary right now. Injuries and age have turned a once-dominant group into a shaky asset.

It's still unclear whether Cooper DeJean will wind up being a cornerback or a safety in the NFL, but he will be a ballhawk regardless of where he lines up. He suffered a season-ending lower leg injury, but he would leave Iowa with seven interceptions and 13 pass breakups over the last two seasons if he declares for the draft.

Carolina Panthers

5 of 32
Frank Reich
Frank Reich

There isn't much to be said about the Carolina Panthers at this point. They're a mess offensively, and the biggest storyline coming out of Carolina for the rest of the season is if/how long head coach Frank Reich will last.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Guard
  2. Wide Receiver
  3. Cornerback
  4. Tight End
  5. Linebacker

Add Now: G Oday Aboushi

With Austin Corbett going on injured reserve this week, the Panthers need to make sure they do all they can to protect their investment in Bryce Young. Adding Aboushi would give them another veteran option to turn to, and he's been a quality pass protector in the past.

2024 Free Agency: WR Calvin Ridley, Jacksonville Jaguars

It's no secret that Carolina needs help at wide receiver as Adam Thielen is a good wideout but isn't a true No. 1 option, especially at this point of his career. A big reason for that is Thielen lacks the speed to win down the field and stretch a defense.

That's where Ridley's 4.43 speed and career 13.5 yards per catch come in. Adding him would give Young a deep threat and help open things up even more for Thielen underneath. The two wideouts would form a good one-two punch and would also allow the young quarterback to push the ball down the field.

2024 NFL Draft: TE Jaheim Bell, Florida State

The Panthers' primary focus this offseason should be getting Young as much help as possible. Their tight end room is rather uninspiring, and they could use a playmaker at the position. Bell might not be able to help the running game much, but he would provide the team with another weapon.

"Jaheim Bell is a modern tight end, which is to say a tight end who isn't really a tight end," B/R NFL draft scout Derrik Klassen said. "Bell is listed at only 239 pounds and doesn't bring many traditional in-line tight end skills.

"That being said, Bell is a smooth mover in space. He's a good underneath yards-after-the-catch threat and can be used as a moving piece in the run game as a splitter or puller."

Chicago Bears

6 of 32
Kyler Gordon
Kyler Gordon

A win is a win?

While the Chicago Bears did walk out of Minnesota with their fourth 'W' of the season, they still have plenty of questions offensively. That being said, DJ Moore continues to impress with another 100-yard game and Chicago's defense certainly came to play with four interceptions.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Wide Receiver
  2. Guard
  3. Quarterback
  4. Left Tackle
  5. Center

Add Now: CB Kelvin Joseph

The Bears might lose Jaylon Johnson in the offseason and they're at a point in the year when they should be focused on next season and beyond. Joseph just turned 24 and has talent as a 2021 second-round pick. It'd be worth it to bring him in for an extended tryout over the next few weeks.

2024 Free Agency: C Andre James, Las Vegas Raiders

Chicago has had a few offensive linemen line up at center this season and Lucas Patrick–who has taken the most snaps at that spot–is an impending free agent. So they'll likely be looking for a center in the spring.

James will be one of the top options on the open market and is good in pass protection to help solve one of the team's biggest issues in 2023. Also, he doesn't turn 27 until May, so he could be along for the long haul, too.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Rome Odunze, Washington

Especially with Darnell Mooney's contract about to expire, the Bears are widely expected to be in the wide receiver market this offseason. Odunze can replace the speed element that Mooney brings to their offense and then some as the Husky is pretty close to a complete receiver.

"All of Rome Odunze's best traits make life easier on the quarterback," B/R NFL draft scout Derrik Klassen said. "Odunze's 6'3", 216-pound frame comes with the catch radius and toughness in traffic that allow quarterbacks to throw into contested windows with confidence.

"He's also an easy mover, though his speed only shows in flashes. Odunze is just exceptionally consistent and reliable, almost to the point that it's boring to watch because you know he's going to deliver."

Cincinnati Bengals

7 of 32
Jake Browning
Jake Browning

Any hope that the Cincinnati Bengals can still eke out a playoff appearance without Joe Burrow the rest of the way is slowly slipping away after a 16-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Jake Browning's first start at quarterback. This one didn't feel as close as the score indicated. The Steelers racked up a season-high 421 total yards, while the Bengals were limited to 222.

It could be a long final stretch with Burrow forced to watch from the sideline.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Interior Defender
  2. Tight End
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Interior Offensive Line
  5. Running Back

Add Now: QB Nathan Rourke, Jacksonville Jaguars

Nathan Rourke was a prolific quarterback in his days at Ohio University. The last time the Bengals added an electric quarterback from Southeast Ohio, it worked out well for them. Rourke put in a strong preseason and had some success in the CFL before winding up on the Jags' practice squad.

With Burrow out for the season, it's worth considering putting Rourke on the active roster.

2024 Free Agency: RB Antonio Gibson, Washington Commanders.

The running back market is not great for players right now, but it does offer teams a chance to snag a good player at a low cost. Antonio Gibson is not a Pro Bowler by any means, but he's a good receiving back who could blossom apart from Washington.

The Commanders seem to favor Brian Robinson Jr., and Gibson is likely going to fall in the team-friendly contract range. He would be a good complement to Joe Mixon moving forward.

2024 NFL Draft: DT Nazir Stackhouse, Georgia

The Bengals' run defense has taken a step back this season. With DJ Reader set to become a free agent, things could go from average to bad pretty quickly if the Bengals don't continue to invest in the defense.

Thus far, they've drafted pretty well on the defensive side of the ball. Nazir Stackhouse could continue that and would be a good heir apparent to Reader, as B/R's Matt Holder explains.

"Stackhouse is a good nose tackle who is a strong run defender and can two-gap. He's hard to move with one-on-one blocks in the running game and is solid to decent at taking on double-teams, conceding some but not much ground. Also, he's a decent athlete for a nose, evidenced by his interception to help seal Georgia's win over Missouri earlier this month.

"However, the Bulldog offers little to nothing as a pass-rusher, as he's not even a good bull-rusher and often doesn't even attempt pass-rush moves."

Cleveland Browns

8 of 32
Kevin Stefanski
Kevin Stefanski

The Cleveland Browns are still squarely in the playoff race, but their 29-12 loss to the Denver Broncos puts a damper on the momentum they had. To add to the laundry list of injuries they've already had to deal with this season, backup-turned-starting quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson went down with a concussion. That likely makes P.J. Walker or Joe Flacco the starter next week when they go to Los Angeles to face the Rams.

To add even more insult to injury, Myles Garrett told reporters he felt a pop in his shoulder and will have an MRI.

The Browns still have a strong roster in the long term, but injuries are starting to make a successful 2023 campaign feel like a remote possibility.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Wide Receiver
  2. Interior Defensive Line
  3. Edge-Rusher
  4. Running Back
  5. Offensive Tackle

Add Now: WR Kenny Golladay

If the Browns are going to find some success on offense down the back stretch, it's going to be because of the supporting cast around Thompson-Robinson. The rookie has some positive traits, but he's only going to be as good as the players around him. Right now, the Browns are really banged up at receiver, and the healthy players outside of Amari Cooper are relatively young.

The outisde options are limited, but Kenny Golladay has a 1,000-yard season on his resume. He was a bust with the New York Giants, but he'd at least be worth a workout right now.

2024 Free Agency: DT Kevin Strong, Arizona Cardinals

The Browns have one of the best defensive lines in the league, but the interior has relied on some veteran free agents with expiring contracts. Mo Hurst and Shelby Harris fit the bill and Jordan Elliott is in the final season of his rookie contract. The Browns are going to need to find some value free agents because all three of those players are coming off strong years with one of the league's top defenses.

Kevin Strong has emerged as a starter for a Cardinals defense that hasn't been all that great. Still, Strong is just 27 years old and has 2.5 sacks on the year.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

Simply put, the Browns offense isn't going to get better until they have a better collection of weapons around Deshaun Watson. The quarterback isn't coming back until next season, and when he does, he'll need more than Cooper and David Njoku to throw to.

Brian Thomas Jr. is not the most well-rounded receiver prospect in this class, but his combination of size (6'4", 205 pounds) and speed is rare. He can flat out fly and has the ability to track down deep balls with ease. That's the kind of game-changer this receiving corps needs.

(Previous Week's Selections: None, OT Yosh Nijman, WR Ja'Lynn Polk)

Dallas Cowboys

9 of 32
DaRon Bland
DaRon Bland

The Dallas Cowboys logged another dominant win over a sub-.500 team, which virtually locks up a wild-card spot for them. However, they need to win at least one of their next two games against Seattle and Philadelphia to prove they're a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Defensive Tackle
  2. Linebacker
  3. Strong Safety
  4. Offensive Line Depth

Add Now: LB Shaquille Leonard

With Leighton Vander Esch out of the year, the Cowboys could use some help at linebacker and are interested in the recently released Leonard, per the Dallas Morning News' Dan Moore. At this point in the game, he'd be their best option for replacing Vander Esch and could help with their Super Bowl run.

2024 Free Agency: RB Jerick McKinnon, Kansas City Chiefs

Tony Pollard is playing on the franchise tag and Dallas is estimated to begin the offseason significantly over the cap, according to Spotrac. The soon-to-be 27-year-old will likely be looking for a payday in the offseason, meaning he'll probably be playing elsewhere next season.

McKinnon has over 2,000 receiving yards in his career and could at least replace what Pollard brings to the passing game but at a fraction of the price. McKinnon is playing on a one-year, $1.3 million contract and shouldn't command much more than that in free agency.

2024 NFL Draft: DT Nazir Stackhouse, Georgia

With Johnathan Hankins and Neville Gallimore about to hit free agency, the Cowboys will be looking for a defensive tackle to fill out the depth chart at the least. Stackhouse would be more of a replacement for Hankins as a run-stuffing nose tackle who could push Mazi Smith for the starting spot or mix into the rotation.

The Bulldog is a strong run defender and can two-gap. He's hard to move with one-on-one blocks in the running game and solid to decent at taking on double-teams, conceding some but not much ground.

Also, he's a decent athlete for a nose tackle, evidenced by his interception to help seal Georgia's win over Missouri earlier this month. However, Stackhouse offers little to nothing as a pass-rusher as he's not even a good bull-rusher and often doesn't attempt pass-rushing moves.

Denver Broncos

10 of 32
Sean Payton
Sean Payton

The Denver Broncos took a huge step toward contending for a playoff spot down the stretch. The Cleveland Browns came into the weekend as the top wild card in the AFC, but the Broncos handed them a 29-12 loss.

The win moves Denver's winning streak to five games and puts the Broncos in a four-team group of 6-5 teams contending for those other spots.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Edge-Rusher
  3. Interior Defensive Lineman
  4. Linebacker
  5. Tight End

Add Now: WR Bryan Edwards

When healthy, the Broncos have a fairly deep group of pass-catchers. Unfortunately, they are far from healthy right now. Tim Patrick, Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson are all on injured reserve, leaving Courtland Sutton, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Jerry Jeudy and Marvin Mims Jr. as the only healthy receivers on the active roster.

Bryan Edwards could help. The 25-year-old had 571 yards and three touchdowns in 2020 with the Raiders. He hasn't caught on with a team this season but has the size (6'3", 212 pounds) to go up an win at the catch point.

2024 Free Agency: LB Patrick Queen, Baltimore Ravens

The Broncos have played much better after the first quarter of the season, because they found their recipe for success. They have played good defense, and the offense has been just efficient enough to put up points and win games.

That's going to continue to be the winning method for Sean Payton with Russell Wilson at quarterback. That means investing even more into a defense that is just a few pieces away from being dominant. Patrick Queen's athleticism and play-making ability as a blitzer would help take the defense to the next level.

2024 NFL Draft: S Malachi Moore, Alabama

Kareem Jackson is 35 years old and just got hit with his second four-game suspension of the season for repeated violations of player safety rules. Suffice it to say, it's time for Denver to start thinking of a succession plan at the position.

Malachi Moore would bring an added dimension to a secondary that has the potential to be great with Patrick Surtain II at corner. Here's B/R scout Cory Giddings on Moore:

"Safety who plays his best when close to the line of scrimmage. Plays most plays as a cover down player over the slot. Plays with good awareness and IQ to put himself in the right positions, especially when in underneath coverage. Physical tackler who makes quick reads and runs through ball-carriers. Lacks the ideal strength to take on blocks. Below-average man-cover skills. Allows separation."

Detroit Lions

11 of 32
Amon-Ra St. Brown
Amon-Ra St. Brown

After a couple of close calls in consecutive weeks, the Detroit Lions cracked on Thanksgiving and suffered a disappointing upset loss to the Packers. Detroit is still in a good position to win the division, but it needs to make use of the mini-bye week to get back on track in New Orleans next Sunday.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Safety
  3. Defensive Tackle
  4. 2nd Edge-Rusher
  5. Linebacker

Add Now: CB William Jackson III

Cornerback has been a sore spot for the Lions just about all season, and they struggled to defend the Packers' passing game on Thanksgiving. Jackson III could at least give them another option for the playoffs if push comes to shove.

2024 Free Agency: CB Jaylon Johnson, Chicago Bears

Detroit is projected to have about $58 million in cap space, via Spotrac, and Emmanuel Moseley is only on a one-year deal. So the Lions will be in the market for a cornerback and will be able to go after one of the top free agents available at the position.

Johnson is the best corner on B/R's free agency big board and the No. 8 player overall, as B/R's Kristopher Knox explained on Nov. 2.

"Picking between L'Jarius Sneed and Jaylon Johnson for the top cornerback of the 2024 free-agent class wasn't easy," Knox said. "Sneed has been a bit more consistent and has had more team success. However, Johnson oozes physical potential and is having a better individual season.

"In six appearances this season, the 2020 second-round pick has recorded 18 tackles, four passes defended, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown. He's allowed an opposing passer rating of only 48.1 in coverage.

"Ultimately, Johnson's age—he'll turn 25 in April—gives him the edge here. Virtually any team in need of secondary help will be interested in Johnson. Money could be the determining factor once he hits the market."

2024 NFL Draft: DL Brandon Dorlus, Oregon

While Alim McNeill is having an excellent season, the Lions could use another defensive tackle to pair with him. Dorlus has been having a good year for Oregon with five sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss heading into this weekend.

He's always shown potential with a good blend of strength and athleticism—he's just putting it all together with improved technique this fall. The Duck is also versatile as Oregon lines him up all over the defensive line.

Green Bay Packers

12 of 32
Jordan Love

What a difference two weeks makes.

After suffering a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10, the Green Bay Packers looked like their season was virtually over. However, after back-to-back wins, they're only one game out of the NFC's third wild-card spot and have a much more favorable schedule than Seattle, whom they trail for that final playoff berth.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Offensive Line Depth
  2. Cornerback
  3. Quarterback
  4. Safety
  5. Tight End

Add Now: TE Dan Arnold

The Packers placed Luke Musgrave on injured reserve last week. While they have Tucker Kraft to turn to as a starter, they only have two healthy tight ends and both are rookies, as Josiah Deguara is also banged up. It'd make sense to add a veteran to the position group to serve as a mentor at the very least.

2024 Free Agency: S Alohi Gilman, Los Angeles Chargers

Even before getting injured, Darnell Savage hadn't been playing particularly well over the last two seasons. He's also an impending free agent, so Green Bay will likely be in the market for a new free safety this offseason.

Gilman isn't a big name, but he's been a quality player this year. He's earned a good grade overall from Pro Football Focus, showing out both against the run and in coverage. The 27-year-old could fill the void Savage leaves and patrol Green Bay's secondary for years to come.

2024 NFL Draft: OT Kingsley Suamataia, BYU

As mentioned several times throughout the season, the Packers need to put together a succession plan for David Bakhtiari. If they do let him play out the rest of his contract, which has one year left after this one, Suamataia could be a good target as he's a bit of a project but has enormous potential, according to B/R NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn.

"Suamataia was in the top three of Bruce Feldman's list of exceptional athletes in college football entering this season thanks in large part to his speed and easy movement skills at 315 pounds," Thorn explained.

"An Oregon transfer and cousin of Lions tackle Penei Sewell, Suamataia's weight-room numbers do show up on film in his ease of movement, along with some pop in his hands and violent finishes that flashed against Arkansas this season.

"Operating in an RPO-heavy scheme, Suamataia is rarely challenged in pass pro and shows marginal awareness on stunts, but he has the foundational physical traits to continue developing his processing skills, feel and recognition skills."

Houston Texans

Cameron Johnston and Matt Ammendola
Cameron Johnston and Matt Ammendola

The Houston Texans came about an inch short of beating the Jacksonville Jaguars and sending a major message to the rest of the AFC South. Unfortunately, Matt Ammendola's 58-yard attempt to tie the game in the final minute doinked off the crossbar.

It's emblematic of where this team is. The Texans are this close to being really scary for other AFC teams, which is great considering quarterback C.J. Stroud is a rookie and DeMeco Ryans is still a first-year head coach.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Edge Defender
  2. Interior Defensive Lineman
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Cornerback
  5. Safety

Add Now: S Logan Ryan

The Texans have been forced to roll with DeAndre Houston-Carson as one of their starting safeties because Jimmie Ward has been dealing with a hamstring injury and M.J. Stewart, Eric Murray and Grayland Arnold are all on injured reserve. Even when Ward is healthy, they need him to be able to move up and play in the slot at times, which will necessitate a third safety.

Logan Ryan was a starter for the Buccaneers last season, but the 32-year-old hasn't found a home this season. He would bring some versatility and much-needed depth at a depleted position.

2024 Free Agency: S Geno Stone, Baltimore Ravens

Signing someone like Ryan would be a Band-Aid at the safety position. Inking a free agent like Geno Stone would give Jalen Pitre a running mate for years to come.

Stone is having a breakout season for the Ravens and has likely earned himself a lot of money. He came into Week 12 tied for the league lead in interceptions with six.

The Texans defense is still building a foundation, and Stone's playmaking ability could be key to their success.

2024 NFL Draft: DT Ruke Orhorhoro, Clemson

To take the next step as a contender in the AFC over the next few seasons, the Texans to have to build a defense that can back up Stroud. That means putting together a defensive line that can get after the quarterback.

Will Anderson Jr. is obviously going to be at the center of that effort, but finding some interior defenders who can command double-teams will be key, too.

Ruke Orhorhoro primarily wins with strength and athleticism, but the raw materials are there to develop a more nuanced pass-rusher. Either way, the Clemson interior defender would be a good fit for the Texans.

Indianapolis Colts

14 of 32
Michael Pittman Jr.
Michael Pittman Jr.

Coming off a bye week, the Indianapolis Colts looked refreshed on offense in a 27-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. First-year head coach Shane Steichen continues to prove that he has what it takes to put a successful offense on the field with Gardner Minshew at quarterback.

The Colts have now won three straight and are lurking in the AFC wild-card chase at 6-5.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Safety
  3. Edge Defender
  4. Tight End
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: LB Brandon Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

The Colts made a change at linebacker, releasing Shaquille Leonard last week. The veteran wasn't the same after back surgery and was getting passed by E.J. Speed on the depth chart.

Indy should look into some younger options who could be an answer there, including Brandon Smith. He was our eighth-ranked linebacker and a fourth-round draft pick in the 2022 class. Now he's available on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad.

2024 Free Agency: EDGE Shaq Lawson, Buffalo Bills

Shaq Lawson's numbers have dwindled this season, but he's also playing as part of a deep rotation in Buffalo. The Colts don't have the same kind of depth on the edges with Dayo Odeyingbo, Kwity Paye and Samson Ebukam taking the majority of the snaps.

Lawson is approaching free agency and won't be coming off a huge campaign, which means he could be an affordable way for the Colts to boost their pass rush in free agency.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

The Colts appear to have a bright future in the slot with Josh Downs. Michael Pittman Jr. is a free agent, but even if they sign him, he has played more like a high-end No. 2 receiver than a true alpha who's going to command a massive target share.

Keon Coleman has those kind of traits. The 6'4", 215-pound prospect is trending toward being the top receiver not named Marvin Harrison Jr. in the class.

Coleman is explosive enough to make the splash plays and has the precise route-running to create routine first downs. He would be a go-to guy for Anthony Richardson from day one, and the Colts would have a great foundation at receiver.

Jacksonville Jaguars

15 of 32
Josh Allen
Josh Allen

The Jacksonville Jaguars won a big one this week, taking down the Houston Texans 24-21 and securing a two-game lead in the AFC South. The offense looked strong for the second time in as many weeks, and the defense did a good job of holding off the Texans final drive.

The final-minute field goal attempt to tie the game bounced off the crossbar, but Josh Allen had two sacks and the Jags held strong to hold them to the 58-yard attempt. That Jags have proven they are the class of the AFC South... for now.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Safety
  2. Interior Defensive Line
  3. Edge Defender
  4. Cornerback
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: CB Bryce Callahan

The Jaguars don't have a ton of pressing needs that can be addressed right now. However, their corner depth continues to be a little dicey. With Tyson Campbell dealing with a hamstring injury, they've had to rely on Montaric Brown to step into the lineup.

Another injury in the secondary could be detrimental, so it would be wise to get some insurance there now. Bryce Callahan can play on the outside in a pinch and can still serve as a good defender in the slot.

2024 Free Agency: DT Justin Madubuike, Baltimore Ravens

As long as Trevor Lawrence continues to ascend, the Jaguars are going to continue to push toward contention in the AFC. But it's going to take a great defense to become a real threat.

The Jags already have some pieces in place, but they need to get aggressive about adding pass-rushers. Justin Madubuike has taken his game to another level this season just in time for free agency.

Madubuike won't come cheap if the Baltimore Ravens allow him to hit the open market, but he's going to be a free agent worth serious consideration.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Tez Walker, North Carolina

The Jaguars have a solid trio of receivers right now with Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. However, Ridley is set to become a free agent after this season, and he hasn't been as consistent as hoped. Kirk's contract only runs through 2025 and Jones has struggled with a knee injury this season.

It all points to wide receiver being a somewhat surprising consideration in the draft. Someone like Tez Walker would give the Jaguars a new option to develop. Derrik Klassen has liked what he's seen from Drake Maye's favorite target.

"Speed, speed, speed. Tez Walker might be the best pure deep threat in this class. Walker screams off the line of scrimmage and instantly hits top speed. Once he's in high gear, there's no way to go step for step with him down the field unless you get hands on him. At this point, Walker is a pretty raw route-runner when asked to do anything other than go deep, but the blend of size and speed is too enticing to fall out of the first couple rounds."

Kansas City Chiefs

16 of 32
Rashee Rice
Rashee Rice

There's been an APB out for the Kansas City Chiefs offenses that we've come to know with Patrick Mahomes at the helm all season. They showed up on Sunday in a 31-17 win over the Raiders.

The Chiefs didn't turn the ball over and had much better receiver play, including eight catches, 107 yards and a touchdown from Rashee Rice. That made it easier on star tight end Travis Kelce, who wound up with six catches for 91 yards.

The defense continued to play lights-out in limiting the Raiders to just 17 points. If the offense can continue this positive momentum, the Chiefs are in good shape.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Interior Defender
  2. Offensive Tackle
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Edge Defender
  5. Cornerback

Add Now: WR KJ Hamler, Indianapolis Colts

The Chiefs have a shot at winning another Super Bowl this year. Unlike previous years, that's more on their defense than the offense.

Patrick Mahomes is still developing chemistry with his young receivers, but it's on them to step up to the plate. Injuries haven't helped either, and the options they can add are limited at this point.

KJ Hamler is one of the most intriguing out there. The former second-round pick was released by the Denver Broncos during the summer with a heart issue. However, he's been cleared since then and is on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad.

2024 Free Agency: OT Trent Brown, New England Patriots

The Chiefs tried to fill an important vacancy with Donovan Smith on a cheap one-year deal at left tackle. But, as it turns out, you generally get what you pay for in free agency.

Smith has struggled. According to Sports Info Solutions, Brown had 17 blown passing blocks and four holding penalties going into Week 12.

Trent Brown would be a big upgrade at left tackle. The 6'8", 370-pounder makes rushers go a long way around him to get to the quarterback. He's 30 years old, but that should only serve to make him a little more affordable.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas

The Chiefs have a lot of young receivers on the roster, but none of them have declared they are a future No. 1 target for Mahomes. With Kelce getting closer to retirement age, finding a top receiver becomes more important. Adonai Mitchell could develop into that kind of player.

Right now, he's primarily a tall deep threat. The 6'4", 196-pounder made some big plays at Georgia before transferring to Texas, where he has become a touchdown-scoring machine.

Las Vegas Raiders

17 of 32
Josh Jacobs
Josh Jacobs

It wasn't all bad for the Las Vegas Raiders in their 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the game, and Josh Jacobs looked like the version of the back we saw last year with a 110-yard day, highlighted by a 63-yard touchdown run.

This roster just isn't ready to run with the Chiefs at this point. They continue to show some positive signs under interim head coach Antonio Pierce, but this is still a team under construction.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Right Tackle
  2. Edge Defender
  3. Quarterback
  4. Cornerback
  5. Interior Defender

Add Now: EDGE Jonathan Garvin

At this point, the Raiders should be looking to find young players who might be part of the puzzle in 2024. They are fringe contenders for a playoff spot at best. But if Pierce can show some growth from young players, then he can make a case for the job.

In that spirit, a 24-year-old free agent at a position of need would be a logical target. Jonathan Garvin hung around the Packers roster as a seventh-round pick for three seasons.

This is a team that relies on Malcolm Koontz to play significant snaps on the edge. It wouldn't hurt to bring in Garvin and see what he can do.

2024 Free Agency: DT Christian Wilkins, Miami Dolphins

Whoever gets the job as general manager this offseason needs to hit the ground running. There are solid pieces in place on defense for a quick turnaround. The Raiders are also 10th in 2024 cap space, so spending shouldn't be an issue.

Christian Wilkins would be a force multiplier for this defensive front. Outside of Chris Jones, he's the most dominant interior defender who is set to hit free agency. He's an elite run-stopper and is putting together his best pass-rushing campaign to date.

He's the kind of presence whom the Raiders need to unlock the potential of Maxx Crosby and rookie Tyree Wilson.

2024 NFL Draft: QB Michael Penix Jr., Washington

The odds are stacked against Aidan O'Connell becoming the quarterback of the future. Whoever becomes the new head coach in 2024 isn't likely to want to hitch their wagon to Jimmy Garoppolo, either.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are likely out of the question.

Michael Penix Jr. is a bit older for a quarterback prospect. He'll be 24 right after the draft, but he's showcasing an NFL skill set at Washington and would be worth a first-rounder where the Raiders will wind up picking.

Los Angeles Chargers

18 of 32
QB Justin Herbert
QB Justin Herbert

If a game could have served as a turning point for the Los Angeles Chargers, it was Sunday night's showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

Hosting one of the top teams in the league on national television, the Chargers had an opportunity to stay alive in the playoff race. Four turnovers pretty much guaranteed that wasn't going to happen, though.

The Chargers couldn't get anything going offensively and had just three points in the first three quarters. The defense did a decent job of keeping the Ravens from putting the game out of reach until late, but this was another disappointing performance for a team that should be better.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Interior Defender
  3. Linebacker
  4. Right Tackle
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: WR Seth Williams, Jacksonville Jaguars

Injuries have ravaged a Chargers receiving corps that looked good on paper at the beginning of the season. What's worse is that Keenan Allen is 31 years old and Mike Williams will be coming off a torn ACL. Quentin Johnston has yet to break out, but the Chargers need more long-term solutions at receiver anyway.

Poaching a promising receiver from a practice squad would be a good way to go, and Seth Williams has some intriguing tools. The 6'3", 212-pound receiver has the size to be a contested-catch specialist on the outside. It would be worth taking a shot on signing him from the practice squad and developing him the rest of the season.

2024 Free Agency: CB Steven Nelson, Houston Texans

The Chargers need to overhaul their cornerback room. Asante Samuel Jr.'s job should be safe, but everyone else should have minimal job security in the spring. Finding multiple young starters who are long-term solutions is a big ask, so finding at least one veteran who can come on a short-term contract and be a starter would be a good step in the right direction.

That's exactly what Steven Nelson has been for the Texans this season, and he could be available in March.

2024 NFL Draft: CB Cam Hart, Notre Dame

Even if the Chargers get a veteran corner who can start opposite Samuel, they need to attack the position in the draft. Cam Hart might not be mentioned among the top corners in the draft class, but the tools are there to be developed. Here's Cory Giddings on Hart:

"Cornerback with excellent length and size. Shows versatility to play in multiple schemes and positions. Patient defender with smooth pedal and technique to stay square in press. Questionable change of direction to cover shiftier receivers and top-end speed. Willing tackler but can be lazy at times. Shows good ball skills and timing to disrupt catches. May serve best in a zone scheme."

Los Angeles Rams

19 of 32
Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams

Kyren Willaims made a loud statement during his return on Sunday, racking up over 200 total yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Los Angeles Rams' blowout win in Arizona.

That win breathed new life into the Rams' playoff hopes, as they're a game behind Seattle for the NFC's third wild-card spot and own the tiebreaker if it comes down to those two.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Left Tackle
  3. Edge-Rusher
  4. Safety
  5. Linebacker

Add Now: EDGE Austin Bryant

The Rams could use another young edge-rusher to pair with Byron Young, and the 27-year-old Bryant recently became available after the 49ers dropped him from their practice squad. It'd be worth a shot to bring him in and see what he can do over the next few weeks. Worst case scenario, Los Angeles can get some inside info on its biggest division rival.

2024 Free Agency: S Jordan Whitehead, New York Jets

John Johnson III has played poorly this season, and Jordan Fuller has been solid but not much better than that. Both players are also impending free agents, meaning safety likely will be one of the Rams' offseason needs.

Whitehead is a versatile player who splits his time between playing deep and in the box, and he's been good in coverage and against the run this year with nearly identical grades from Pro Football Focus in those categories.

In Los Angeles, he'd likely stick at free safety, as Raheem Morris runs a lot of two-high coverages. As a safety, the six-year pro's 11 career interceptions and 42 passes defended could come to good use.

2024 NFL Draft: OT Joe Alt, Notre Dame

Left tackle has been a sore spot for the Rams all season and Alaric Jackson is an impending free agent, so they'll likely be looking for a new blind-side protector in the draft. Les Snead might have to trade up for Alt, but the Golden Domer could be worth the capital.

"Alt is listed at 6'8" yet plays with the pad level and leverage of a blocker closer to 6'5", routinely working his hands and pads under and inside of defenders," B/R NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn said.

"Alt plays with excellent technique, control and sustain skills thanks to this leverage, but also high-end agility and balance. He looks like the most polished run-blocker in the class at tackle."

Miami Dolphins

20 of 32
Raheem Mostert
Raheem Mostert

The Miami Dolphins' Black Friday win over the New York Jets mostly went to script. Tua Tagovailoa threw a pair of interceptions late in the first half, but the offense was otherwise explosive and ran the ball well to protect the early lead in the second half.

The Dolphins continue to look dominant against bad competition, but they need to prove they can beat a team with a winning record before getting too excited for a deep playoff run.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Right Tackle
  2. Left Guard
  3. Edge-Rusher
  4. Tight End
  5. Interior Defender

Add Now: EDGE Melvin Ingram

It might be time to check if they still have Melvin Ingram's number after Jaelan Phillips suffered a season-ending Achilles injury against the Jets. Phillips was a key cog on a front seven that had been playing well.

The 34-year-old Ingram played in 17 games for the Dolphins last season and had six sacks, but he's a free agent now.

2024 Free Agency: Edge Marcus Davenport, Minnesota Vikings

Phillips and Bradley Chubb are the stars on the outside, but Phillips' recovery might eat into the first part of the 2024 season. The Dolphins could use a third pass-rusher that could add even more punch to a group that also has strong pass-rush options on the inside.

Marcus Davenport signed a one-year deal with the Vikings and he's only played four games this season, but he's had two sacks in those games. His market could be depressed based on his injury history, but he would make a lot of sense as a rotational pass-rusher for the Fins.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Xavier Legette, South Carolina

Wide receiver isn't on the list of the top needs for this team. There are more pressing roster spots when you have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. However, a real third option would make this offense even more difficult to defend. They traded for Chase Claypool, but he's been injured.

Xavier Legette is fast enough to keep up with the other receivers in the room and sports a 6'3", 227-pound frame. It might be unfair to the rest of the league's defenses, but the Dolphins could consider adding a receiver like Legette through the draft.

Minnesota Vikings

21 of 32
Josh Metellus
Josh Metellus

It certainly feels like the clock has struck, or is at least approaching, midnight on the Minnesota Vikings' Cinderella story. Monday night's loss to the Bears makes it two in a row for Minnesota as the turnover bug has returned with seven in the last two weeks. They're also clinging onto the last NFC wild-card spot by just a half-game.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Interior Pass Rush
  2. Running Back
  3. 2nd Edge-Rusher
  4. Cornerback
  5. Quarterback

Add Now: DL Matt Ioannidis

The Vikings placed Dean Lowry on injured reserve this week, leaving them thin on the interior defensive line. Ioannidis is probably their best option to replace Lowry as Ioannidis is a quality run defender. He could help improve their interior pass rush as well with 25.5 career sacks.

2024 Free Agency: LB Patrick Queen, Baltimore Ravens

With Jordan Hicks' and Troy Dye's contracts about to expire, Minnesota will likely be looking for a new linebacker in free agency. Queen will be one of the front office's top options this offseason as he ranks 22nd overall and as the No. 2 linebacker on B/R's NFL free agency big board.

"In May, the Baltimore Ravens declined linebacker Patrick Queen's fifth-year option," B/R's Kristopher Knox explained on Nov. 2. "The 24-year-old has responded with a hot start to what could be a career year.

"Through eight games, Queen has tallied 69 tackles, six tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six quarterback pressures and three passes defended. He finished the 2022 season with 117 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions."

Heading into this weekend, the Raven was up to 94 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and seven pressures, per Pro Football Reference.

2024 NFL Draft: EDGE Dallas Turner, Alabama

If the Vikings don't re-sign Danielle Hunter, finding another edge-rusher will be one of their top draft needs this April. Turner would be a good option to replace Hunter as the Alabama product is an impressive athlete who started to put it all together in the second half of the season, racking up seven sacks and 10.5 TFL heading into this weekend.

While Turner is a few pounds lighter than Hunter was coming out of college, they have similar profiles as prospects. Coming out of LSU, the latter was a high-level athlete with a good motor who needed to refine his technique, and similar statements could be made about Turner.

New England Patriots

22 of 32
Mac Jones
Mac Jones

Believe it or not, the New England Patriots were actually favored to win this week. They still didn't.

Things continue to get worse for the Patriots. Not only did they lose to a struggling New York Giants team that was starting Tommy DeVito at quarterback, but they only managed to put up seven points and benched Mac Jones for the fourth time this season.

At 2-9, it wouldn't be surprising to see them make some questionable decisions down the stretch to make sure they are in the Caleb Williams and Drake Maye sweepstakes.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Quarterback
  2. Offensive Tackle
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Edge-Rusher
  5. Cornerback

Add Now: WR Marquez Callaway

At this point, the Patriots should be looking for any spark of offense they can find. The receiving room wasn't great to start with, and they've dealt with season-ending injuries for Kendrick Bourne and Tre Nixon. There are already a lot of young options but they haven't been productive.

Marquez Callaway is still only 25 years old and a season removed from having 698 yards and six touchdowns.

2024 Free Agency: OT Austin Jackson, Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins might looking to upgrade at right tackle, but Austin Jackson would actually be an upgrade for the Patriots. While the 24-year-old has bounced around the offensive line and has put up some bad film in his first four years, he's settled into being an adequate starter at right tackle this season.

The Patriots could desperately use help on the offensive line, but they need multiple starters. Taking a shot on the continued development of Jackson would be a shrewd move.

2024 NFL Draft: QB Drake Maye, North Carolina

Caleb Williams was in this spot last week, so it only makes sense to spotlight Drake Maye here this week. The Patriots are still in contention to land one of the top three picks in the draft, and as long as one of those teams is willing to stick with their current quarterback, it will give them a shot at Williams or Maye.

Williams is an incredible prospect, but Maye has advantages over his USC counterpart. For one, his 6'4", 230-pound frame is more ideal for life in the NFL. He's a much more physically gifted prospect than Mac Jones ever was, too.

That's what the Pats need to remodel the offense and get the franchise back on track.

New Orleans Saints

23 of 32
Chris Olave
Chris Olave

Consistency continues to be a problem for the New Orleans Saints, as they've essentially bounced between two-game winning and losing streaks throughout the campaign.

The Saints' playoff hopes are fading after dropping Sunday's matchup in Atlanta, especially since they now have to face a Detroit team that will have 10 days to prepare.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Guard
  2. Cornerback
  3. Left Tackle
  4. Tight End
  5. Wide Receiver

Add Now: WR Kenny Golladay

The Saints placed Michael Thomas on injured reserve last week, and while they do have a couple of good wideouts in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, they could use a big body who is good in contested-catch situations.

It's been a few years since Golladay has been at the top of his game, but he could at least provide the team with another option to get 50/50 balls, as that was his calling card in Detroit. Also, Olave left Sunday's game with a concussion which could cause them to be even more short-handed at receiver.

2024 Free Agency: OT Cam Fleming, Denver Broncos

The Saints are going to be in a tough spot this offseason as they need help at left tackle but are also projected to begin the offseason well over the cap. So they need to be economical while addressing the position. Fleming has experience protecting the blind side and won't break the bank as he's been more of a swing tackle in Denver over the last three seasons.

This might not be an ideal situation as the Saints still won't have a top-end talent at the position, but it might be the organization's best option, and the 10-year pro would at least give them an experienced veteran at their disposal.

2024 NFL Draft: iOL Dominick Puni, Kansas

A new guard will also likely be making his way to the Big Easy this offseason as the team has several players at the position who are impending free agents. Puni could be a good Day 2 target as he currently has a late-second- to early-third-round grade on B/R's NFL draft big board.

"Puni has a massive frame, thick build and very good power on contact that consistently delivers jolt and displacement," B/R's NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn said. "The best part about his game is the control that he plays within the second and third phase of a block, steering and finishing defenders to secure rush lanes.

"Puni's physical presence, size and underrated movement skills have earned him a spot in Mobile where he will get to show what he looks like at guard, his likely professional position."

New York Giants

24 of 32
Bobby Okereke
Bobby Okereke

The New York Giants have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, but "too little, too late" isn't even accurate enough to describe that feat.

That does give the team more momentum heading into its bye week, but New York has been playing for next year and beyond for a while now.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Quarterback
  2. Interior Offensive Line
  3. Right Tackle
  4. Cornerback
  5. 2nd Edge

Add Now: EDGE Jordan Willis

The Giants need to start thinking about next season and beyond, and finding a second edge-rusher to pair with Kayvon Thibodeaux will be one of their offseason needs. Willis could fill that role and is under 30 years old, so these last few weeks could be a tryout for him.

2024 Free Agency: RB Joshua Kelley, Los Angeles Chargers

Saquon Barkley is an impending free agent and will likely be looking to play for a contender after this disaster of a year in New York. However, if the organization was reluctant to pay top dollar for one of the most talented running backs in the league, it'll be bargain-hunting to find Barkley's replacement.

Kelley won't make the same level of impact in the passing game that his predecessor does, but he is a good between-the-tackles runner. He's averaged over four yards per carry during the last two seasons and would probably be interested in an opportunity to be a team's lead back after playing behind Austin Ekeler in Los Angeles.

2024 NFL Draft: OT Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma

Evan Neal has infamously not worked out with the G-Men and the front office should look to find another option at right tackle. Guyton could be a good target as he currently holds a third-round grade on B/R's NFL draft big board.

"Guyton has been a steady riser throughout this season with strong performances in games against Texas and UCF," B/R NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn said. "Guyton is still prone to a technical breakdown that results in a glaring loss once or twice a game but routinely uses his size (6'7" and 328 lbs), very good athletic ability and tone-setting demeanor to impose his will on the majority of reps.

"Guyton was primarily a defensive lineman and basketball player in high school with just one start at TCU before transferring to Oklahoma last season when he made five starts. He is still an inexperienced, ultra-talented tackle with the tape and tools of a future first-round pick, especially if he sticks around another season in Norman under renowned line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.

"Guyton could declare this year if he continually improves, crushes the draft process and becomes a first-round pick, but he will need to first maintain his current upward development arc for that to happen."

New York Jets

25 of 32
Tim Boyle
Tim Boyle

The New York Jets lost the first-ever Monday Night Football game and are now the losers of the first-ever Black Friday game. The Jets put on an abysmal show in a 34-13 loss to the Dolphins to drop their record 4-7.

The defense was good enough to keep up the illusions of a playoff appearance without Aaron Rodgers, but reality has started to set in.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Quarterback
  2. Offensive Tackle
  3. Safety
  4. Wide Receiver
  5. Interior Defender

Add Now: iOL Lecitus Smith, Philadelphia Eagles

The Jets are the most desperate team for offensive line help in the league. The offense has been bad for a cornucopia of reasons, but offensive line play is chief among them.

Lecitus Smith might not be the answer, but poaching someone from the Eagles who has been coached by one of the NFL's best offensive line coaches in Jeff Stoutland isn't a bad idea.

2024 Free Agency: OG Jon Runyan Jr., Green Bay Packers

Ideally, Alijah Vera-Tucker will be able to slide back inside to guard full-time next season. He has All-Pro potential there. But as we've seen this season, circumstances could force him to kick outside to tackle. If that's the case, the Jets need guards who can take a spot and keep the unit going.

Jon Runyan Jr. isn't a star, but he's been a starter for the Packers and would know Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron Rodgers well.

2024 NFL Draft: QB Carson Beck, Georgia

The Jets are going to be in a weird position at quarterback this offseason. Rodgers is talking about coming back late this season from the torn Achilles that he suffered in Week 1, but he'll be 40 years old coming off a major injury.

The Jets can't really use their first-round pick on a quarterback. They have to get help for the one they have. But a trade back into the second round or using a third-round pick on one shouldn't be out of the question.

Carson Beck could have a first-round skill set but come at a discount because of his lack of experience and physical tools. Here's B/R NFL scout Derrik Klassen on Beck:

"Beck just gets how to play the position. Though only a first-year starter, Beck plays with impressive timing and decision-making. He understands how to execute within the structure of the offense and keep things moving at a steady, consistent pace. Beck is also fairly tough in the pocket and accurate enough to all three levels of the field.

"I'm not sure Beck has the athletic ability or arm strength to be a first-round pick, but he checks a lot of other boxes."

Philadelphia Eagles

26 of 32
Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles certainly didn't make life easy for themselves with their come-from-behind overtime win against the Buffalo Bills, but that's what championship teams do: find ways to win games.

The Eagles continue to stack up Ws, as they have a two-game lead for the NFC's top seed heading into December.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Linebacker
  2. Tight End
  3. Cornerback Depth
  4. Wide Receiver Depth

Add Now: LB Shaquille Leonard

With Nakobe Dean on injured reserve, the Eagles are thin at linebacker. ESPN's Ed Werder recently reported that they're interested in Leonard, and that pairing would make a lot of sense for their potential Super Bowl run.

The Cowboys are also rumored to be interested in the linebacker, so keeping him away from a division rival would be an added bonus.

2024 Free Agency: RB Gus Edwards, Baltimore Ravens

Philadelphia has three impending free agents at running back, including lead back D'Andre Swift. The Eagles are also known for being economical and using a committee approach to the position, so don't expect them to hand out a big contract to Swift or any rusher on the open market this offseason.

Edwards shouldn't command top dollar in free agency since he's turning 29 in April. Also, he's been successful working in a rotating backfield with the Ravens. He'd be a good option as the power back in Philly.

2024 NFL Draft: WR Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

As mentioned last week, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman might be looking for a third receiver in the draft since Olamide Zaccheaus, Quez Watkins and Julio Jones are all impending free agents. Thomas, who currently has a third-round grade on B/R's NFL draft big board, could be a good target for them.

"The sell for Brian Thomas Jr. is very simple: a big man who runs fast," B/R NFL draft scout Derrik Klassen said. "Thomas is all of 6'4", 205 pounds and he's got dangerous speed down the field. Thomas' vertical ability is a huge reason LSU is the most explosive team in the country right now.

"He's more than that, though. Thomas is a fairly smooth mover for his size and he's a natural at tracking the ball in the air, especially over his shoulder on deep passes."

Pittsburgh Steelers

It wasn't reflected on the scoreboard, but there's a lot more reason for optimism for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense coming out of this one. Although they scored only 16 points in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals they rolled up a season-high 421 total yards to the Bengals 222 in their first game after firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

That output snapped a 58-game streak without gaining 400 yards. Tight end Pat Freiermuth showed off the kind of upside he has with nine catches for 120 yards.

If this offense figures things out and can support the defense, no team will want to face the Steelers in January.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Cornerback
  2. Offensive Tackle
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Quarterback
  5. Interior Defender

Add Now: S Duron Harmon

Any game that the Steelers win from here on out is probably reliant on the defense. The unit has been pretty solid all season, but the injuries have mounted at safety. Minkah Fitzpatrick has been injured, Elijah Riley suffered an ankle injury last week and Keanu Neal was placed on injured reserve.

Duron Harmon is a veteran with starting experience for the Raiders, Falcons, Lions and Patriots.

2024 Free Agency: CB Ronald Darby, Baltimore Ravens

Patrick Peterson has not been the same player he was with the Vikings last season, and Levi Wallace's role has been diminished. In other words, the Steelers are going to need to find a cornerback to pair with Joey Porter Jr. on the outside next season. It's a need that could be filled in the draft but probably needs a veteran addition as well.

Ronald Darby has put in a strong season with the Baltimore Ravens and has likely earned himself some cash next season. The Steelers could weaken a division rival while filling a need if they outbid the Ravens for the 29-year-old.

2024 NFL Draft: OT Patrick Paul, Houston

Broderick Jones is showing every week that he deserves to get snaps as a rookie. Dan Moore Jr. continues to show that he's going to need to be replaced. Jones was initially drafted to be a left tackle, but he's taken the right tackle job from Chukwuma Okorafor.

If the Steelers draft Patrick Paul, then Jones may wind up on the left with the Houston Cougar manning the right side. Here's B/R's Brandon Thorn on what Paul brings to the table:

"Paul has elite length with solid movement skills and good play strength. He also brings a nasty, tone-setting demeanor that isn't always present in tackles which makes him especially fun to study on tape.

"His strike timing and ability to land his hands inside the frame of defenders is shaky, leading to wide hands on contact and a lack of control that will be pronounced in the pro game. This leads to a sloppy element in his game, but his physical tools are evident, and when he does get his hands in the right spots, the rep is typically over.

"Paul will be up and down initially as a pro if he earns a starting role, but the foundation is in place to hold up physically right away, giving him a shot to add polish to his game to stick long-term."

San Francisco 49ers

After a dominant performance against the Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving, the San Francisco 49ers reestablished themselves as the undisputed top dog in the NFC West and one of the two best teams in the conference. San Francisco also has a chance to pick up a game on Philadelphia with a huge matchup coming up on Sunday.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Safety
  2. Guard
  3. Right Tackle
  4. Center
  5. Cornerback

Add Now: S P.J. Williams

With Talanoa Hufanga done for the year after tearing an ACL, and now George Odum with a torn bicep, the 49ers could use some help at safety. Williams would fill out the depth chart at the least, and he was also a quality starter for the Saints. At this point, the 30-year-old would be one of the organization's best options for replacing Hufanga and Odum.

Williams also has experience playing special teams to help replace what brings to the team.

2024 Free Agency: WR Isaiah McKenzie, Indianapolis Colts

San Francisco doesn't have very many impending free agents, but it is projected to lose speedy wide receiver and return specialist Ray-Ray McCloud in free agency. That's where McKenzie can come in, as he has a similar skill set as a smaller, quicker receiver who also returns kicks.

Those two also have similar career stats as returners, with McCloud averaging 9.8 yards per punt return and 22.5 yards on kickoffs while McKenzie sits at 9.0 and 22.4.

2024 NFL Draft: OL Graham Barton, Duke

The 49ers could use help at right tackle and guard right now, but they'll have to wait until the offseason to find some support. Those spots will likely be two of their biggest draft needs, and Barton could give them an option to fill either hole, as he's a college tackle who projects best at guard, according to B/R NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn.

"Barton has been in and out of the lineup this year with a knee injury, but he has been an impact player when on the field, particularly in the run game," Thorn said. "His play strength, sustain and finishing skills regularly open up lanes.

"Barton plays with sound technique in pass protection with a stout anchor, providing a physical presence when uncovered and deciphers games quickly. His below-average length and mediocre range get exposed against speed upfield, which signals a move inside being his best bet as a pro, but he has the necessary tools and skill set to make a successful transition."

Seattle Seahawks

Losing three out of their last four games has raised some doubts about the Seattle Seahawks' playoff chances. They've gone from leading the NFC West to clinging onto the NFC's final wild-card spot by just one game.

Things won't get much easier for Seattle either as they have back-to-back road games--Dallas on Thursday and San Francisco the following week—before a home matchup with Philadelphia.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Interior Offensive Line
  2. Safety
  3. Nickelback
  4. Offensive Tackle

Add Now: QB Nick Foles

While Geno Smith was healthy enough to play on Thanksgiving, two Sundays ago proved that Drew Lock isn't a capable backup quarterback. Adding Foles would give the Seahawks another option to turn to in case Smith gets injured again and/or suffers a setback. Plus, it can't hurt that Foles has experience winning a Super Bowl as a QB2.

2024 Free Agency: S Terrell Edmunds, Tennessee Titans

Between injuries and a rather pedestrian impact when on the field, Jamal Adams hasn't lived up to the hype in Seattle. While he does have a few seasons left on his contract, the organization could save about $16.5 million in cap space by releasing him with a post-June 1 distinction, per Over The Cap.

Similar to Adams, Edmunds has experience playing all over the field—taking snaps in the box, lining up deep and covering the slot. He could be a decent replacement for his predecessor at a fraction of the price.

2024 NFL Draft: iOL Dominick Puni, Kansas

As mentioned last week and several times throughout the season, the Seahawks are likely going to be looking for guards during the draft given how Damien Lewis and Phil Haynes have played in 2023 and the fact their contracts are about to expire. Puni could be a good mid-round target, as he currently holds a third-round grade on B/R's NFL draft big board.

"Puni has a massive frame, thick build and very good power on contact that consistently delivers jolt and displacement," B/R NFL draft scout Brandon Thorn said. "The best part about his game is the control that he plays within the second and third phase of a block, steering and finishing defenders to secure rush lanes.

"Puni's physical presence, size and underrated movement skills have earned him a spot at the Senior Bowl, where he will get to show what he looks like at guard, his likely professional position."

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The benefit of playing in the NFC South is that despite losing six out of their last seven games, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still only a game back from being a playoff team. However, they also currently hold the seventh overall pick.

Tampa Bay does have a good chance to get back on track against Carolina next week, but it also might be time to start thinking about the future in the Gulf Coast.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Guard
  2. Center
  3. Cornerback
  4. Tight End
  5. Safety

Add Now: CB Casey Hayward

The Buccaneers got good news last week when they found out Jamel Dean avoided a major injury, but they shouldn't take too many chances and should bring another cornerback in, especially since Carlton Davis is also banged up and their playoff hopes are on the line.

Hayward is probably the best player at the position available at this stage in the game as he has a good track record of success for many years in the league. It couldn't hurt to at least stash him on the practice squad in case of an emergency.

2024 Free Agency: LB Azeez Al-Shaair, Tennessee Titans

With Lavonte David's and Devin White's contracts about to expire, a new linebacker will likely be heading to Tampa Bay this offseason. Al-Shaair is a good athlete, which the organization seems to covet at the position, and has been very productive this season now that he's out of Fred Warner's and Dre Greenlaw's shadows.

The former 49er and current Titan is on his way to the second 100-tackle season of his career with 94 total takedowns through the first 10 games of the campaign.

2024 NFL Draft: S Kamren Kinchens, Miami

With Antoine Winfield Jr. about to hit free agency, safety could be one of the Bucs' biggest needs in the draft. Kinchens would be a quality replacement as he's currently the highest-ranked player at the position on B/R's NFL draft big board and shares a lot of similar qualities as Winfield.

"Kinchens is an athletic safety with good movement skills," B/R NFL draft scout Cory Giddings said. "He shows fluidity in coverage with quick feet and ability to drive on the ball.

"Physical defender who plays with a high motor and quickly closes ground on the ball-carrier. Kinchens does a good job keeping leverage and fighting through blocks. He runs through the ball-carrier on tackles while taking poor angles and falling off some at times."

Tennessee Titans

31 of 32
Mike Vrabel
Mike Vrabel

The Tennessee Titans snapped a three-game losing streak with a 17-10 win over the Carolina Panthers, but it might their last win of the season. They certainly won't be favored very often from here on out.

They are 4-0 at home, but they get the Texans, Jaguars, Seahawks and Colts at home the rest of the way, and each of those teams are in the playoff race. They'll also travel to the Dolphins and Texans, so there are no gimmes left on the schedule.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Offensive Tackle
  2. Edge-Rusher
  3. Wide Receiver
  4. Cornerback
  5. Safety

Add Now: DT Matthew Butler, Las Vegas Raiders

The Titans are now in a mode where everything should be with an eye on 2024. They are old on the interior of the defense and Teair Tart is set to hit free agency. Poaching a defensive tackle with some potential from a practice squad is the kind of move they should be considering.

Matthew Butler played in six games as a rookie last season but has been stuck on the Raiders practice squad.

2024 Free Agency: WR Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts

It's been suggested in this space before that the Titans should make a run at Calvin Ridley, poaching the Jaguars' No. 1 receiver. The Colts, another AFC South rival, will also have their No. 1 target hitting free agency as well.

Michael Pittman Jr. is a big, physical receiver who can make contested catches downfield. In other words, he's everything the Titans have hoped Treylon Burks would become.

Pittman might never be a true No. 1 receiver, but he would be a good complement to DeAndre Hopkins until the Titans find that guy.

2024 NFL Draft: OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu, Penn State

The Titans are now losing at a clip that should allow them to start thinking about the best offensive linemen in the draft. Peter Skoronski is a good start for building the kind of offensive line that can carry out Mike Vrabel's vision of a team that can bully opposing defenses.

Fashanu would be an emphatic step even further in that direction. He's not just a nimble pass protector, but he's a bulldozer up front who can help the Titans build a tone-setting offensive line.

Washington Commanders

32 of 32
Curtis Samuel
Curtis Samuel

The Washington Commanders waived the white flag on the 2023 campaign when they traded away two of the best players on the roster, and it showed on a national stage against Dallas on Thanksgiving. Washington is likely heading toward a full rebuild in the offseason and firing defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is the first step in that process.

Biggest Weaknesses:

  1. Edge
  2. Linebacker
  3. Left Guard
  4. Quarterback
  5. Tight End

Add Now: WR Bryan Edwards

The Commanders are playing for next season and beyond at this point and they have several impending free agents at wide receiver. Edwards is still only 25 years old, and it would be worth it to sign him and see what he's got over the last few weeks of the campaign. Who knows? Maybe he can be part of their plans moving forward.

2024 Free Agency: LB Isaiah Simmons, New York Giants

Cody Barton has been a liability in coverage all season and is about to have his contract expire. Washington could use an athletic linebacker who can run with tight ends, and that's what Simmons can bring to the table.

While his time in Arizona wasn't good, the 2020 first-round pick has put together a good campaign in New York. He's earned an impressive coverage grade from Pro Football Focus, due in part to allowing a 70.5 passer rating when targeted.

2024 NFL Draft: TE Cade Stover, Ohio State

Logan Thomas will turn 33 years old this summer, which isn't ideal for a team that is likely going to rebuild in the offseason. Even if the old veteran sticks around next year, it'd be a smart decision to spend a draft pick on Stover to develop him for the future.

"In a wide-open TE class behind Brock Bowers, Cade Stover could be TE2," B/R NFL draft scout Derrik Klassen said. "Stover isn't an electric mover, but he runs OK and has exceptional balance through contact. Rather than win with speed, Stover does more with his body control and ball skills.

"He's a very good ball-winner, especially over the middle. I still want to see more from Stover as a blocker, as well as a YAC threat, but he's got some skills to be a solid, reliable TE in the league."
