2012 NFL Draft Order: St. Louis Rams Still Have Tough Decision at No. 2

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

The St. Louis Rams were dealt a blow when they failed to get the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. No, they couldn't use Andrew Luck, but they now have a conundrum to ponder in which area to address.

The Rams just finished an awful season. You could pretty much copy and past that sentence after most of the years in this franchise's seasons. The Rams are once again on the wrong side of mediocre, but have the blessing of the No. 2 pick in 2012.

If they had secured the top spot, they could have traded the assumed Luck selection for a gift bag of draft picks in return.

Now they have one question to answer: Do you shore up a soft offensive line, or a receiving corps that is woefully understaffed?

The call here is either Justin Blackmon or Matt Kalil.

Matt Kalil

The USC tackle is a brute on the line. His hobbies include being solid and regularly pushing fools around.

The Rams are waltzing dangerously close to making Sam Bradford the second coming of David Carr. They have to keep him safe and on the field for an entire season.

Kalil would ensure that with one dramatic pick. However, this is not the only thing that ails the Rams. As we all know, they need a receiver as well.

Justin Blackmon

The Oklahoma State receiver is a bona fide star that would bring some swagger back to the Rams that were one the greatest show on turf.

Blackmon showed in the Fiesta Bowl that he is a beast to cover. If he wants the ball, you best believe he is going to go get it.

Now comes the point where we ask whether the chicken or egg is the prudent choice. Blackmon is nice and all, but he doesn't go off unless there is a healthy Bradford in the pocket.
