Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon Announces He'll Enter 2012 NFL Draft
As if there was any doubt, Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon just made it official: He will enter the 2012 NFL Draft.
Blackmon announced his decision on ESPN shortly after his Cowboys wrapped up a 41-38 win over Stanford in overtime in the Fiesta Bowl, saying that he is ready to take his chances in the NFL.
Blackmon's decision capped what was an epic night for him on the field. He caught eight passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, pacing a Cowboys offensive attack that Stanford simply couldn't keep up with. He was named the game's offensive MVP.
Blackmon, a junior, could have left for the NFL last year, but he decided to return to Stillwater for one more season. The decision resulted in a second straight Fred Biletnikoff Award and Monday night's Fiesta Bowl win.
The general consensus among draft pundits is that Blackmon will be one of the first wide receivers taken in the 2012 draft, and he could go as high as the top five.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller has Blackmon at No. 7 overall in his latest big board, and he thinks that the best fit for Blackmon is in a West Coast offense that would allow him to utilize his formidable frame.
Among the teams drafting at the top, the St. Louis Rams would seem to be an ideal fit for Blackmon, but he could also go to receiver-needy teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns.
We won't know for sure until late April. For now, all we know is that Blackmon is making the right choice. He has nothing left to prove at the college level.
