Yankees Rumors: Madison Bumgarner Interest 'Lukewarm at Best' amid Pitching Injuries
Despite mounting injuries in their starting rotation, the New York Yankees don't seem inclined to take a chance on Madison Bumgarner.
Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are "lukewarm at best" on the possibility of adding the former World Series MVP to their pitching staff.
Bumgarner was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 26 after posting a 10.26 ERA over his first four starts this season. The left-hander was still owed $34 million through 2024 at the time of the move.

The decision came after D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo left open the possibility Bumgarner might not make his next start after allowing seven runs in three innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 19.
"I don't know," Lovullo told reporters. "As we do with every situation, after every start we group up as a staff and sit down with the front office and figure out what to do next, and that's what we're going to end up doing, I'm sure."
The Yankees have been scuffling recently with eight losses in their last 13 games, though most of the focus has been on their lineup problems. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson are on the injured list.
New York enters Friday ranked 23rd in OPS (.677) and 24th in runs scored (126).
Gerrit Cole has done a great job of propping up the starting rotation. He has a 1.35 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 46.2 innings over seven starts. No other Yankees starter has an ERA under 4.46 so far this season.
Carlos Rodón, who signed a six-year, $162 million contract in free agency, has yet to pitch because of an elbow strain and back stiffness. Frankie Montas could return in the second half of the season after undergoing right shoulder surgery in February.
Luis Severino was scheduled to make a rehab start on Wednesday, but the Yankees opted to have him throw a live pitching session at the team's spring training facility in Tampa, Florida.
Even with those concerns in the starting rotation, Bumgarner's struggles with Arizona don't suggest he's a pitcher who can make a positive impact for a team that's trying to make the playoffs this season.
