Bears' Updated Depth Chart After D'Andre Swift's $24M Free-Agent Contract
The Chicago Bears and running back D'Andre Swift agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract Monday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal contains $15.3 million in guarantees.
Swift spent his first three seasons with the Detroit Lions, flashing breakaway skills but never turning in a year of fully healthy football, before heading to the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

Swift will be the presumed leader of a backfield that already included incumbent Khalil Herbert and 2023 fourth-round pick Rochon Johnson:

RB1: D'Andre Swift
RB2: Khalil Herbert
RB3: Rochon Johnson
RB4: Travis Homer (cut candidate)
In Philadelphia, Swift was given every opportunity to be the unquestioned RB1. Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Gainwell also saw snaps, but neither had the same level of upside. He racked up 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns while adding 214 yards and a score as a receiver.
Swift has averaged 4.6 yards per carry over his NFL career and averaged exactly that during his first year in Philadelphia.
There are some similarities between him and Miles Sanders of a year ago, with both being elite per-carry backs who never put together a full season. Sanders wound up blasting his career highs with 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns last season before getting a new long-term deal with the Carolina Panthers.
The Eagles allowed Sanders to walk last offseason and have now allowed history repeat itself with Swift.
The similarities don't stop there. Like the Panthers last offseason, the Bears will likely be adding a former Eagles running back to an offense that takes a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. Chicago is considered a mortal lock to take USC's Caleb Williams with the top selection.
The Bears will hope history doesn't repeat itself in terms of results. Carolina struggled through a miserable 2-15 campaign, and an ineffective Sanders was benched in favor of Chuba Hubbard.
Herbert and Johnson are more than capable of providing solid work in the ground game, but the Bears are signing Swift to take it to the next level.
