Looking Ahead

5 of 5

As history dictates, the WWE draft will only be as successful as the company's commitment to creating two distinct brands out of Raw and SmackDown.

Too often since the first draft in 2002, the company has shuffled talent back and forth, using loopholes or completely disregarding the brand split, to get to the matchups and feuds it desired.

It has devalued the entire process to the point that fans are often left wondering why there is a roster split in place at all.

This feels like a reset for Triple H and his creative regime, though, an opportunity to set the rosters and place the talent where he wants for the next year's worth of stories and feuds.

The WWE head of content has clearly established Roman Reigns as the face of SmackDown and Cody Rhodes as the top star on Raw, and he will look to build around them.

Though the Rhea Ripley pick has yet to be made, The Game has essentially swapped the women's champions in hopes of freshening things up on that front.

Shuffling around other names to create fresh matchups underneath and providing each top star potential with new opponents should always be the goal while organizing the Raw and SmackDown rosters.

By hook, crook, Royal Rumble or Money in the Bank win, one goal is still likely to be Rhodes redeeming himself in a WrestleMania rematch with Reigns. But that can be forgiven if, and it's a big if, Triple H and the rest of the writing team can adhere to the rosters they will build through this draft.

Otherwise, it is another instance of WWE making promises it could not keep...or had no intention of keeping.
