Brock Lesnar's Best Potential Opponents After WWE WrestleMania Win Over Omos

Erik BeastonApr 6, 2023

Brock Lesnar vanquished Omos in the opening match of Sunday's WrestleMania 39 festivities and then made headlines the following night with an unexpected beatdown of Cody Rhodes in the final minutes of WWE Raw.

In the wake of an eventful few days for the 10-time world champion, these are the three best opponents to keep him busy in the coming months as he reestablishes himself as a heel and looks to conquer WWE as the unstoppable force of nature he has always been.

Cody Rhodes

1 of 3

Lesnar decimated Cody Rhodes on Monday's Raw, leaving him lying in a heap on the very steel ring steps he had F-5'd him on moments earlier.

It was an emphatic statement by The Beast Incarnate that The American Nightmare is the next Superstar he wants to take to Suplex City.

With WWE returning to Puerto Rico for the first time since 2005 on May 6 for the Backlash pay-per-view, the company could use a high-profile main event.

With Roman Reigns not yet advertised for the show and no evidence that the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will be up for grabs, there are far worse options than booking Rhodes vs. Lesnar to cap off the night.

The All Elite Wrestling co-founder can begin his redemption tour while Lesnar provides the type of star power that will draw fans for the event.

If the last storyline to follow this pattern (John Cena in 2012) is any indication, Rhodes would likely win in San Juan to keep himself in title contention.

Regardless of who comes out on top, a Backlash main event would be a return to form for Lesnar after working an undercard program with Omos at WrestleMania and a series of bouts with Bobby Lashley that kept him way from the top of the card.

And speaking of The All Mighty...

Bobby Lashley

2 of 3

Lesnar and Lashley have unfinished business dating back to Elimination Chamber in February.

What was supposed to be the end to a months-long feud instead featured a cop-out finish that was the direct result of a bad booking decision which left Triple H and WWE Creative with no other choice.

All signs pointed to Lesnar winning to wrap up the feud, especially after Lashley had gotten the best of him so many times leading into the match.

However, Bray Wyatt issued a challenge to the winner of the match, but Lesnar had no intention of working with him at WrestleMania, meaning the creative team had booked itself into a corner.

Lesnar kicked Lashley low, resulting in a disqualification and ensuring The All Mighty won in the least satisfying way possible.

A post-match eruption helped The Beast save face to an extent, but one could not help but feel the audience had been robbed of a suitable finish to a battle between two top competitors.

With Lesnar reestablished as a heel following the attack on Rhodes, WWE could revisit the Lashley feud, especially if it isn't eager to run with the The American Nightmare match yet.

Lashley needs a boost after being left off the 'Mania card in the wake of Wyatt's absence from television and a definitive match with The Beast would help. Even in defeat, Lashley would benefit from actually being back on a PPV card.

It is a feud that deserves a finish, and it's a rivalry that WWE should revisit at some point over the next year.

Drew McIntyre

3 of 3

This one is a bit less obvious than the other two.

At WrestleMania 36, Lesnar defended the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre. The match, which was held in an empty Performance Center at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, was short and to the point.

More importantly, McIntyre defeated The Beast to capture his first world title.

That loss is one which Lesnar has yet to avenge. The Scot got the best of his opponent at nearly every turn in that feud, eliminating him from the men's Royal Rumble to end his record run and hen dethroning him as champion.

With McIntyre's pursuit of the Intercontinental Championship ending in defeat at WrestleMania courtesy of Gunther, it leaves him with no immediate direction outside of the potential resumption of a feud with Sheamus.

Why not reintroduce the Lesnar feud?

The Beast can play up how much the loss has eaten away at him over the past three years, and he wants to take out the frustration he still feels from that night on the Scot now.

It is an easy story to tell and one that elevates McIntyre back to prominence again.

Considering his contract is up in the next nine months and WWE hopes to keep him, giving the beloved babyface something of substance to keep him busy is probably the right call.

That can be achieved while also providing fans with the next chapter in a feud that was cut short by circumstances beyond anyone's control in 2020.
