Booking WWE's Top Feuds of 2023 After WrestleMania 39 Results

Erik BeastonApr 3, 2023

On the heels of a controversial WrestleMania 39 that saw Roman Reigns successfully retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship over Cody Rhodes, WWE looks to the future beginning with Monday's Raw.

What awaits top stars as a new year dawns for the top wrestling promotion in the industry and what are the best booking options for them?

Find out with this look at the top feuds of 2023 after WrestleMania.

Bianca Belair vs. Asuka

1 of 3

The feud between Bianca Belair and Asuka has only just begun.

Belair's victory over The Empress of Tomorrow Sunday night at WrestleMania may have seemed definitive but Asuka made it abundantly clear on social media that she is about to rain down with furious vengeance and, more specifically, chaos on the women's division.

The best way to book this is to do exactly as Asuka suggests: introduce a little anarchy into the women's division. Let her raise hell, attacking innocent competitors while making it clear that the endgame is Belair and another shot at the Raw title.

Triple H and Co. should book that rematch for Backlash in Puerto Rico, almost out of necessity to preserve the well-being of the women's roster and watch as Asuka becomes the dangerous threat that she did not have the time to develop into ahead of WrestleMania.

Asuka winning the title from Belair, embarking on a months-long run in which she conquers every other challenger (including Becky Lynch) before returning to The EST for one last showdown would bring things full circle while allowing The Empress to go on a title run that she long ago earned.

Rey Mysterio and Bad Bunny vs. The Judgment Day Extends the Family Feud

2 of 3

Bad Bunny was absolutely key in preventing Dominik Mysterio from cheating to defeat his father, Hall of Famer Rey, in one of the most emotional matches of WrestleMania weekend.

He is also slated to be the host of the upcoming Backlash premium live event on May 6 in Puerto Rico. In an attempt to maximize his value and follow up on a match that was among the most buzzed-about of the entire two-day extravaganza, WWE should convince him to work a match on the show.

Not just any match, but a high-profile tag match in which he partners with Rey to battle Dominik and The Judgment Day's Damian Priest.

Not only is there obvious history between Rey and Dominik, but it was Priest with whom Bad Bunny forged a friendship and teamed with at WrestleMania 37.

Those two story threads make this an appealing match and one that keeps the ongoing father-son family drama alive without running the one-on-one match into the ground.

Rey vs. Dominik II should, and will, happen. It kind of has to if there is any hope of evolving the heel into a genuine, bona fide contender at the next level. Beating his father and embracing the heat that will come along with it is Dominik's endgame.

Letting the feud play out with Bad Bunny in Puerto Rico, and then building toward SummerSlam in Detroit for the long-awaited rematch feels like the best option.

Speaking of using tag matches to keep things progressing without running back a bunch of rematches...

Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. The Bloodline

3 of 3

It took the entire Bloodline's interference for Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39, a booking decision so bold it still feels strange typing it.

WWE Undisputed Tag Team champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens assisted Rhodes at one point in the main event, fending off Jimmy and Jey Uso.

With the company unlikely, and rightfully so, to run back Rhodes vs. Reigns at Backlash, what better way to continue the feud and steal some viewership than by running a good, old-fashioned six-man tag?

The participants will remain over, Rhodes can hope to avenge his loss at WrestleMania and do so without Reigns suffering a pinfall loss. The crowd in Puerto Rico will be red-hot because the six men involved are the hottest in the company and the result will be a match that, if nothing else, writes the next chapter in a story that presented a major swerve on the grand stage.

Is it the most exciting potential development? No, but that feels like it is a few months off at this point. Will it be a hell of a match and allow Rhodes to get some of his heat back? It will if he has not already done so before then.

The babyfaces going over could further the schism within The Bloodline, especially as Reigns stars asking for answers as to why The Usos are not holding up their end, losing matches and creating headaches for The Tribal Chief.

The inevitable Jey Uso turn should take place by the end of 2023 if there is any hope that he will be the man to take down The Head of the Table. Otherwise, Rhodes fighting and scratching his way back into title contention is a viable option.

As a wildcard, do not be surprised if Seth Rollins ends up intertwined in the title picture, especially after his comments to ESPN's Daniel Cormier about Rhodes and Reigns (more veiled) raised some eyebrows.
