WWE WrestleMania 40: The Rock vs. Roman Reigns and Dream Matches We Need to See
The completion of WrestleMania 39 means WWE officials have already begun eyeing the top stars and key match-ups they hope to present at next year's show in Philadelphia.
Emanating from Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, the show will certainly feature a loud, passionate audience ready to erupt for the good and rain down with relentless boos for everything else.
Which matches are musts for the show, though?
These are just three dream matches that WWE must present in the City of Brotherly Love.
Bianca Belair vs. Charlotte Flair
1 of 3
Bianca Belair has defeated three of the storied Four Horsewomen of NXT since arriving on the main roster back in 2020.
The EST knocked off Sasha Banks to win the SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania 37 in 2021 and defeated Becky Lynch a year later to capture the Raw Women's Championship. Over the course of a year-long reign as champion, she defeated Bayley in a series of high-profile title defenses.
For all that she has accomplished, and every one of those revolutionary competitors that she has defeated, she has not beaten Charlotte Flair. She has not even had a major match with The Queen, something that was originally planned for WrestleMania 39.
It is a match that absolutely must happen next year in Philadelphia.
It is the one dream match that fans have not had the opportunity to see unfold on a grand stage and the last missing piece in Belair's claim to undisputed greatness.
That all indications are that it would be a phenomenal wrestling match based on their in-ring exploits to this point only make it that much more desirable.
There is always the possibility WWE will produce the match before then, especially with a big stadium event upcoming in the form of SummerSlam in Detroit, but its magnitude is deserving of the grand stage.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
2 of 3
Over the course of his first run with WWE, Cody Rhodes was constantly linked to Randy Orton.
First, he defended his father, Dusty, against The Legend Killer. Then, he joined him in Legacy, learning under the WWE champion.
Now firmly established as a star on the level of his mentor, Rhodes must battle Orton on the grand stage.
The rich history that exists, the easy-to-tell story and the in-ring talents of both superstars make the prospective match one that would excel in a WrestleMania setting. Both competitors are massively over and have the type of credibility that fans demand out of headliners.
Philly, for as bloodthirsty as it can be, also appreciates the rich history of wrestling. The Orton and Rhodes families are responsible for plenty of it and the latest battle between them would make for an apropos match in that city.
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns
3 of 3
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is a dream match that has dominated headlines and taken up residence in the heads of fans since The Great One rushed to the aid of his cousin at the conclusion of the 2015 Royal Rumble.
It feels like the most sensible match left out there for Rock, who has accomplished everything there is to do in the world of pro wrestling otherwise. He had his chance to work against The Tribal Chief, in what would have been one of the biggest main events of all time, this year but scheduling demands left him uncertain that he would be able to get into ring shape for the match.
If he was not in ring shape for the match in 2023, knowing full well that WWE wanted to produce that match in Hollywood in hopes of filling up the massive SoFi Stadium, there is reason to believe he again is hesitant to work the event in Philadelphia in 2024.
Still, it is the one monumental dream match the company has left to promote that it has not already.
Rock and Reigns are the defining members of the Samoan wrestling dynasty and two of the biggest stars in WWE history. They are also responsible for some of the biggest crowd reactions in the industry today. Their accomplishments are many and well-documented.
When you factor in Reigns' claims that he is the Head of the Table in the Bloodline, there is even more reason for them to do battle.
With The Tribal Chief's schedule lightening up with every passing year, and The Rock not getting any younger, Philadelphia in 2024 is the time and place for the match to happen. If not, it might not ever.
