NBA Trade Rumors: Cavaliers 'Content' Keeping Caris LeVert; CLE Seeks Wing Help
The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly "content" with keeping forward Caris LeVert amid their explorations into the wing market prior to Thursday's trade deadline, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
"Cleveland has actively explored shooters on the wing market to slot in between the Cavaliers' All-Star backcourt of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell, and the team's fearsome frontcourt pairing of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.
"While Cleveland has been connected by league personnel to various players such as Portland's Josh Hart and Atlanta's Bogdan Bogdanović, at this juncture, the Cavs seem content on moving forward with Caris LeVert, who is set to become a free agent this offseason."
LeVert is averaging 12.4 points on 41.3 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 30.8 minutes per game. He's played 50 games with 25 starts.
LeVert's name has been mentioned in trade rumors frequently this year. Matt Moore of the Action Network reported that the Dallas Mavericks and Cavs talked about a deal involving LeVert and Mavs wing Tim Hardaway Jr.
Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reported (h/t HoopsHype) that NBA teams a month ago believed that LeVert, who has an expiring contract, is the Cavs' best trade asset.
Fedor also reported, however, that the Cavs don't love the wing options available and would be fine keeping LeVert (h/t Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors). For his part, the 28-year-old told Fedor that he hopes to stay with Cleveland.
The 34-22 Cavs have done quite well with the crew they have right now. They sit fourth in the Eastern Conference and look well positioned for a playoff berth and a potentially deep postseason run. LeVert may very well leave this offseason in free agency, but the 6'6" wing is a good asset off the bench who can help this team shoot for a championship.
LeVert appears likely to stay, but there's bound to be more movement before the NBA trade deadline on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
