Lakers Trade Rumors: 'Nets Didn't Have Interest in' Russell Westbrook in Kyrie Deal
The Brooklyn Nets "didn't have interest in taking back" Russell Westbrook in a potential trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Los Angeles had been heavily linked to Kyrie Irving after he requested a trade last week, but the All-Star point guard was instead dealt to the Dallas Mavericks, as reported by Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes.
Haynes reported the Lakers had a trade offer that included both their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks:
Ian Begley of SNY also reported the team had a package including Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick last week.
The Nets preferred the Mavericks' package, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, which included Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Brooklyn wanted Austin Reaves, Max Christie and pick swaps in addition to Westbrook and the two first-round picks.
Westbrook is a more proven player than either one coming from Dallas with a resume that includes nine All-Star selections, two scoring titles and an MVP award. The Nets still had limited interest in the 34-year-old after his transition to a bench role, averaging 15.7 points, 7.5 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game this year.
The 6'3" guard is shooting just 41.4 percent from the field, which would be his lowest mark since his rookie year in 2008-09, while making only 28.6 percent of shots from three-point range.
It could make Westbrook, who has a $47 million expiring contract, tough to move ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
Haynes previously reported conversations between the Lakers and Utah Jazz about a Westbrook trade, while Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported the Charlotte Hornets could be a potential trade partner.
The Nets bowing out still leaves one fewer landing spot for Westbrook.
