Mets Rumors: Carlos Beltrán to Join Front Office, Will Work Under GM Billy Eppler
Three years after his ill-fated tenure as manager, the New York Mets are hiring nine-time All-Star Carlos Beltrán again.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman, Joel Sherman and Andrew Marchand reported Sunday that Beltrán is joining the front office and will work under general manager Billy Eppler.
The 45-year-old spent seven seasons with the Mets as a player. He was a key contributor to the 2006 team that reached the National League Championship Series, and his 31.1 WAR are third-most among position players in franchise history.

The Mets hired Beltrán to become their manager in November 2019.
Two months later, MLB released the findings from its investigation into the Houston Astros' sign-stealing practices. Because he was retired as a player, Beltrán was named in the report, and the fallout led New York to quickly make a managerial change.
Considering Alex Cora and A.J. Hinch, who were also implicated in the scandal, have since landed on their feet with MLB teams, it was a matter of time before Beltrán was granted a second chance somewhere.
The former Gold Glove winner worked with YES Network on its coverage of the New York Yankees in 2022. Marchand wrote in November how he experienced a "learning curve" and that network officials believed he "performed better in-studio than he did during games."
Now Beltrán can enjoy a job that appears much more suited to his post-playing interests. According to the Post's report, his official duties with the Mets remain unclear.
