49ers' Brandon Aiyuk: Eagles Were 'Extremely Lucky' to Make Super Bowl, Backs Chiefs
Despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in last week's NFC Championship Game, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk isn't convinced the team will be successful in Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Per Brenden Deeg of The Score, Aiyuk recently said it was luck that got the Eagles to the big game, and he doesn't believe it's in the cards for them to win it all.
"If I were going to bet on this game, I would take everything that I own, get it in cash, and put my money on the Kansas City Chiefs," Aiyuk said, later adding, "You got to get lucky to win a Super Bowl, and [the Eagles] just got extremely lucky last week, so who's to say they can't do it twice?"
The 24-year-old believes the 49ers were "hands down, the best football team in the league," so he admitted he's still not over the loss to the Eagles.
"We felt like it was our time, and for that to get cut short, it's sickening," he said.
Aiyuk was held to one catch for 10 yards in San Francisco's 31-7 loss to Philadelphia. The 49ers were doomed by injuries to quarterbacks Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson, rendering the passing attack ineffective.
Even if Purdy and Johnson stayed healthy, the Eagles defense would have been up for the challenge, as the unit ranked first in the NFL during the regular season by allowing just 179.8 yards per game through the air. However, Aiyuk also said he believes Kansas City's passing attack led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have no problems against Philadelphia.
"I don't know fully about that defense," Aiyuk said. "They talk about them being a good defense; I'm not sure. I think the pass game, this Kansas City pass game, will expose what we thought we were going to be able to expose before some unfortunate circumstances."
The world will see get to see if Aiyuk's prediction comes true when the Chiefs and Eagles meet next Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
