Super Bowl 2023: Vegas Betting Odds, Updated Money Line for Chiefs vs. Eagles

Alex BallentineFeb 3, 2023

There's no bigger day in American sports betting than Super Bowl Sunday. With a high-profile matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles ahead, that's not going to change in 2023.

This contest has everything you'd want in the championship game. It's a pairing of Andy Reid's former team against his current one; a battle of two young, dynamic quarterbacks trying to carve out their legacy; and, most importantly, these are the two best teams in the league.

Oftentimes, the Super Bowl can come down to the two hottest teams at the time. But both of this year's participants were consistently good on their way to the No. 1 seed and an eventual championship berth.

It also makes it a difficult game to handicap for those who'd like to place some wagers.

Here's a look at where the latest odds stand as the Chiefs and Eagles prepare to meet at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12.

The Matchup

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have coasted to the Super Bowl.

As the odds would indicate, we have a fascinating matchup on our hands.

On paper, the Eagles have the more complete roster. Jalen Hurts has been playing at an MVP level when healthy this season, and they have a tremendous group of skill players in A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Miles Sanders working behind a great offensive line.

On defense, Philadelphia might be even scarier. Its pass rush racked up 70 sacks this season, leading the league by 15. Its never-ending rotation of skilled players up front is backed up by a secondary that is highlighted by Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry.

Of course, the Chiefs have no problem with offensive firepower, either. Patrick Mahomes could wind up with the NFL MVP based on his performance this season. He led the league in passing yards and touchdowns in his first season without Tyreek Hill.

Without Hill, the Chiefs' offense has gone to a more receiver-by-committee approach. Travis Kelce is the main attraction, but Mahomes' No. 2 target could be JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marques Valdez-Scantling or even Kadarius Toney any given week.

On defense, Chris Jones led a pass rush that was second in the league in sacks with 55 this year. The unit isn't dominant as a whole, but it does play good complimentary football with the offense and typically does enough to help the team win.

Whether that will be enough against the Eagles offense will be a deciding factor in this game. Philadelphia has multiple ways to a win a game when it has the ball. The Chiefs' defense is going to need to be opportunistic and force some turnovers to win the game.

Prediction

Leadership from veterans like Jason Kelce could be key for the Eagles.
Leadership from veterans like Jason Kelce could be key for the Eagles.

The hardest part to predicting this game is figuring out how Philadelphia will react to the Super Bowl stage. It's a unique game, and experience can matter.

Some of the core from the 2017 team that won the championship is still there. Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham have all been there before. However, much of the Eagles roster will be playing in their first Super Bowl while the Chiefs were there just two years ago.

The Eagles haven't really been tested in the playoffs. They were clearly better than the Giants and won 38-7. The Niners were left with Josh Johnson and an injured Brock Purdy, so it's hard to take too much from that game, although they still put up 31 points on a good San Francisco defense.

It's not Philadelphia's fault that its playoff competition has been questionable, but it earned the No. 1 seed with a stellar regular season.

It just makes it a bit harder to trust that the Eagles will be able to do the same thing to the Chiefs.

Ultimately, it's not enough to pick against them, though. They bring and elite offense and defense to the table. The Chiefs are the same or better on offense, but the same can't be said of their defense.

Philadelphia has enough veterans with playoff experience to keep the team focused, and the moment shouldn't be too big for them.

It's hard to bet against Mahomes, but the Eagles' roster is too talented and well-rounded to go against them.

Prediction: Eagles 31, Chiefs 27
