Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Moore spent the past four seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, but the two sides mutually parted ways on Sunday.
Despite the quick move, Rapoport reported the Chargers had been "working on this for a while" and already asked permission to speak to Moore before he parted ways with the Cowboys.
The Chargers previously interviewed Rams assistants Thomas Brown, Greg Olson and Zac Robinson as well as Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson and Titans tight end coach Luke Steckel for the role, which came open after Joe Lombardi was fired.
Los Angeles finished last season 10-7 with the No. 13 scoring offense in the NFL despite having one of the league's top young quarterbacks in Justin Herbert and versatile running back Austin Ekeler, who led the NFL in touchdowns.
The squad was eliminated by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first game of the playoffs after blowing a 27-0 lead, scoring just three points in the second half of a 31-30 loss.
Moore will look to get more out of the offense after finding plenty of success over the past few years in Dallas.
The 33-year-old led the NFL's No. 1 offense in both yards and points scored in 2021, finishing at least sixth in points scored in three of the past four years. The squad ranked fourth in the NFL with 27.5 points per game in 2022 despite being without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for five games due to a thumb injury.
After Prescott returned, Dallas scored at least 27 points in nine straight games from Week 8-17.
The results were enough to get interviews for head coaching positions, including this year with the Carolina Panthers.
Moore's status with the Cowboys was still in question after the team's 19-12 playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the team's second successive postseason exit at the hand of San Francisco. Head coach Mike McCarthy said the position "will be evaluated."
The Cowboys decided to move on, but Moore wasn't unemployed for too long, as the Chargers swooped in to land the former quarterback.
