Joel Embiid Talks 76ers' Title Outlook After Nuggets Win: 'We've Got a Good Chance'
After putting up 47 points and 18 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers' 126-119 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, Joel Embiid is confident about his team's title chances this season.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Embiid said "we've got a good chance" because how much talent they have and how well they all fit together.
"You've got James Harden, obviously he's been playing great basketball. You've got Tyrese Maxey. Tobias has been great, P.J. Tucker ... we've got a group that fits with each other," the Sixers superstar explained.
Embiid also called this Philadelphia team the best and deepest one he has been on in his NBA career.
Saturday was probably the biggest victory of the season for the 76ers. They trailed by as many as 15 points and scored 68 points in the second half to defeat a Nuggets team that has the best record in the Western Conference.
Embiid was an unstoppable force in leading the comeback. He went 18-of-31 from the field and had six of Philadelphia's 12 offensive rebounds. The five-time All-Star has made no secret of his desire to win an MVP award.
Going up against Nikola Jokić, the reigning two-time MVP and arguably frontrunner to win it for the third consecutive year, Embiid took his game to another level. This was his ninth game of the season with at least 40 points.
The Sixers have been playing terrific team basketball recently. They have won seven consecutive games and have moved into second place in the Eastern Conference with a 32-16 overall record.
There's still a lot of games left to be played in the regular season, but Embiid and the 76ers are looking more and more like a team capable of making a deep playoff run.
