Cowboys News: Joe Philbin, Rob Davis Among 6 Assistant Coaches Released from Team
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is making major changes to his coaching staff.
The Cowboys announced assistant head coach Rob Davis, senior defensive assistant George Edwards, assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett, running backs coach Skip Peete, offensive line coach Joe Philbin and quality control analytics coach Kyle Valero will not be retained for the 2023 season.
"We thank these men for their hard work, dedication and contributions to the Cowboys," McCarthy said in a statement. "Each of them represented our team and organization at a high, professional level with class and commitment to making our team better. These were difficult decisions to make because of the great respect I have for each of them as a coach and person of character, combined with the experiences we've all gone through together. This is the hardest part of the business and we wish them nothing but the best."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Davis, Edwards, Peete and Philbin were among the coaches McCarthy brought to Dallas upon his arrival. Philbin has been on McCarthy-led staffs for more than a decade dating back to the pair's time with the Green bay Packers. Davis was a player and executive in the Packers organization during McCarthy's tenure.
Lett, the longtime former Cowboys defensive tackle, has been an assistant defensive line coach with the franchise dating back to 2011. Valero just finished his ninth season with the franchise.
The Cowboys are coming off back-to-back 12-5 seasons but have underperformed in the playoffs, going 1-2 in McCarthy's tenure. While owner Jerry Jones has publicly supported McCarthy returning for the 2023 season, it's clear there's been pressure behind the scenes to make changes and improve.
Jettisoning six members of the staff might indicate McCarthy will be sitting on a warming seat heading into next season.
