Robert Griffin III: 2011 Heisman Winner Makes Right Choice Entering NFL Draft
Baylor Bears QB Robert Griffin III has just finished his junior season with the team and has easily had his most promising college football season.
Yet days after helping his Bears team win a bowl game, it will be Griffin that is headed for the 2012 NFL draft.
There wasn't more this QB could have done this season, leading his Bears to a 10-3 season finishing with a 67-56 come-from-behind victory over Washington and, in turn, a bowl game victory.
He was also awarded with this year's 2011 Heisman trophy, which of course is the highest honor that any player can receive.
Griffin threw for a whopping 4,293 yards, 37 touchdowns and just six interceptions. This does not include the monster numbers on the ground, as Griffin also ran for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The nation hasn't seen these sort of numbers since a player like Tim Tebow was putting up monster numbers when combining touchdowns both in the air and on the ground.
Griffin has also posted at least three total touchdowns in five of his last six outings.
Although Griffin had another year left to play for Baylor, he made the absolute correct choice in entering the 2012 NFL draft, a decision that will turn out to be as promising as any for the young talent at the QB position.
The main reason behind Griffin entering the NFL draft could well be the increasing number of teams needing QBs heading into the 2012 NFL offseason.
Teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Chicago Bears have experienced major injury issues at the position. Others such as the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks have had poor production at the position and will be looking to make improvements and add more talent.
Waiting until the 2013 NFL draft was an option, but inevitably Griffin will have more options entering the 2012 NFL draft. There are a plethora of teams in need of new, fresh talent in the QB slot, as he will be the all more marketable a prospect in 2012.
