More than 100 top college recruits were invited to this year's All-America Game, with players split between Team Phantom and Team Speed. While the players will undoubtedly be looking to win, this is first and foremost a talent showcase.
Like college all-star contests, including the Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game, coaches and talent evaluators may glean more from the week's practices than the game itself. Players who have already committed won't be incentivized to risk injury in an exhibition.
For those players, practices leading up to Tuesday's game have provided their chance to shine.
Ohio State commit Noah Rogers, for example, may already be working his way into the 2023 lineup.
"Ryan Day said on Signing Day that all four of the wide receivers that the Buckeyes signed were going to make an 'impact' in 2023," Andrew Ivins of 247Sports wrote. "We'll see if that statement holds true, but it wouldn't be surprising if Rogers worked his way onto the field as a true freshman after watching him run around on Sunday."
Ohio State—which narrowly lost to Georgia in the Peach Bowl on Saturday—has become a strong producer of NFL receiving talent. If Rogers can get on the field early for the Buckeyes, it will be an impressive feat.
Future Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold, meanwhile, has been one of the most impressive signal-callers in practices.
"Arnold looked great and as we've said after multiple viewings this year, the ball just comes out of his hands differently. He has an explosive arm and generates a ton of what we would call easy velocity," Greg Biggins of 247Sports wrote.
Arm talent isn't everything, of course, but the Sooners know they have an incoming quarterback who can put the ball anywhere on the field—at least in practices, anyway.
Practices have been a showcase for uncommitted recruits too, like 5-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor.
"Harbor once again illustrated what makes him so unique as he rolled past Oregon signee Daylen Austin and into the end zone for a score," Ivins wrote. "Too many people want to focus on what Harbor isn't right now as a football player instead of trying to entertain the idea of what he could be one day. Austin, by the way, is a 10.9 guy in the 100-meter dash."
Fans should get a taste of players like Harbor and Arnold on Tuesday, along with a little bit of info about some other top prospects.
According to Brian Dohn of 247Sports, defensive lineman Ashton Porter, cornerback Ethan Nation, edge-rusher Cameron Lenhardt and running back Durell Robinson are expected to announce their college choices at the All-America Game.
