What's Next For Jon Moxley and MJF After AEW Full Gear 2022 Results?
The main event of AEW Full Gear 2022 saw Maxwell Jacob Friedman defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, but how he did it is what got people talking.
Heading into the showdown, MJF was trying to convince everyone he had changed and wanted to win the title fairly and honestly instead of resorting to the cheap tactics that have brought him success so far.
He even saved Moxley from his former group, The Firm. This moment convinced a lot of people that All Elite Wrestling might be about to go all-in on a babyface MJF.
However, as he and Moxley were winding down their match on Saturday, William Regal shocked the watching fans by sliding MJF his brass knuckles to finish the job.
Not only did this turn Regal heel and confirm MJF was still the same cheater he has always been, but it also put the future of the Blackpool Combat Club in jeopardy.
Wednesday's Dynamite will likely provide a few answers, but for now, let's look at what could be coming up for MJF and Moxley.
Moxley Gets Well-Earned Break
1 of 4Before All Out, Moxley was planning to take some time away from the ring, but the backstage incident involving CM Punk and The Elite threw a wrench in everybody's plans.
Moxley became the world champion again and helped carry AEW through the period between pay-per-views. Now that The Elite are back and MJF has the title, he can take that break.
Moxley and wife Renee Paquette have a young child at home, so the former world champion will likely relish the time he gets to spend with his daughter.
We might get one or two more appearances out of him before he takes a hiatus, but it wouldn't be surprising if he was just gone for a few months starting this week.
When Moxley Returns, He Will Want That Belt Back
2 of 4Not only is Moxley going to want a rematch for the AEW World Championship when he returns, but he is also going to want retribution.
The 36-year-old is obviously going to want a little payback against MJF, but he is also going to want some answers from his former mentor and friend, Regal.
As the founder of the BCC, the former NXT general manager has essentially turned his back on Mox, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.
It's possible those three men will remain aligned, maybe even as an official trio to feud with The Elite, but it's unlikely they will want to remain affiliated with Regal if he is palling around with MJF.
Regal may not be an active competitor anymore, but he may want to brace himself for whatever Moxley is going to do when he gets his hands on him.
MJF Will Already Have a Challenger Waiting
3 of 4MJF won't even have the title for a week before a new No. 1 contender is decided on Wednesday's Dynamite.
After both men survived the first two rounds, Ricky Starks and Ethan Page will battle in the finals of the World Championship Eliminator Tournament this week.
Starks is now working as a babyface and is a great candidate to push into the world title scene, but we shouldn't forget MJF also has a beef with Page.
All Ego is part of The Firm, which means he and everyone else in the group are going to have their sights set on making the new champion's reign as short as possible.
Plus, Page likely wants a little payback for the eye poke and low blow MJF gave him last week.
Whoever wins on Wednesday probably won't have to wait long for their title shot. AEW is good about having its belts defended regularly despite only having a handful of PPVs every year.
The Pinnacle 2.0
4 of 4MJF has had quite a history with different groups in AEW. He was involved with The Inner Circle, briefly led The Firm and even had The Pinnacle alongside Wardlow, FTR and Shawn Spears.
With the 26-year-old now at the top of the mountain, he may want to recruit some muscle to help him keep the belt around his waist. That is where a new version of The Pinnacle could come into play.
Spears isn't doing much these days and would benefit from being MJF's right-hand man, but there are others who would be great for a group like this, too.
Anthony Ogogo, The Butcher, The Blade and Bunny, and a heel version of Varsity Blonds could all be viable choices. However, an alliance with Mark Sterling, Josh Woods and Tony Nese may be even better.
AEW has no shortage of names who would gain something from being associated with the world champion, so building another stable around him would be relatively easy.
MJF and Moxley will meet again at some point, but until then, where do you see both men heading as we approach 2023?
