UFC 141 Results: Fighter Post-Fight Stock Report
On Friday night, Brock Lesnar faced off against Alistair Overeem in a heavyweight matchup for the No. 1 contender position.
The winner of the fight would move on to face Junior dos Santos for the heavyweight title, but the loser was sure to fall down in the rankings.
In addition to the main event, the entire main card was stacked, featuring some of the top talent in the UFC.
Let's take a look at 10 fighters from UFC 141 whose stocks are rising or falling.
Rising: Jim Hettes
1 of 10Jim Hettes came into his fight with Nam Phan as a relative unknown. Even Dana White said in the post-fight press conference that it was the first time he had noticed him.
However, after such an impressive performance over a veteran like Phan, Hettes' stock is certainly on the rise.
At 24 years of age, with a 10-0 record and a stellar ground game, Hettes is sure to make some big waves in 2012.
Falling: Nam Phan
2 of 10We can't be sure if Hettes was really that good, or if Phan just isn't that good.
In his fight against Jim Hettes, Nam Phan was absolutely outclassed, and had nothing that he could offer as far as defense.
However, after having gone 3-6 in his last nine fights, Phan's stock is certainly falling.
Rising: Alexander Gustafsson
3 of 10Alexander Gustafsson is primed for a huge 2012, as he was able to knockout the veteran, Vladimir Matyushenko, in just over two and a half minutes.
Gustafsson is now on a four fight winning streak, and 13-1 overall, with the lone loss coming at the hands of Phil Davis.
Gustafsson is now due for a step up in competition, and will likely face a solid top 10 veteran for his next fight.
Falling: Vladimir Matyushenko
4 of 10It seems that Matyushenko is unable to hang with the top light heavyweights these days, having lost both times he had a step up in competition.
Matyushenko is now 4-2 in the UFC, and should he choose to stick around, he would be the ultimate gatekeeper in the light heavyweight division.
Unfortunately for "The Janitor," at 40-years-old, he may be on the downslide.
Rising: Johny Hendricks
5 of 10Need I explain this one?
Johny Hendricks just knocked out the man who many consider to be the No. 2 welterweight in the world. He did in 12 seconds what GSP couldn't do in 25 minutes.
Hendricks' stock is undoubtedly on the rise. Look for big things from him in 2012.
Falling: Jon Fitch
6 of 10If Johny Hendricks' stock is rising, Jon Fitch's stock is falling faster than he fell to the canvas on Friday night.
Fitch just suffered the first loss of his UFC career to someone other than GSP. He went from most peoples' No. 2 welterweight, to potentially outside the top five.
At 0-1-1 in his last two fights, his stock is dropping.
Rising: Nate Diaz and the Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu Team
7 of 10On Friday night, Nate Diaz stepped into the Octagon and absolutely battered Donald Cerrone.
Many were pegging Cerrone as a future title challenger, and saying that he would absolutely march through Nate Diaz.
This was not to be the case, and Diaz showed off his boxing for a solid 15 minutes.
With Nate and Nick tearing it up in the UFC, Jake Shields ready to make a comeback and Gilbert Melendez holding strong to his Strikeforce title, the entire Cesar Gracie team is on the rise.
Falling: Donald Cerrone
8 of 10Donald Cerrone stepped in the cage mad on Friday night. He wanted to beat Nate Diaz up, and he wanted to come home with the win.
Unfortunately, Diaz's boxing overwhelmed Cerrone, and he was never able to mount much of an offense.
With the loss to Diaz, Cerrone has dropped down in the rankings, and will start to work his way back to a title shot.
Rising: Alistair Overeem
9 of 10Going into the main event on Friday, the fans were split as to who would win this fight.
Half thought that Overeem's striking would take the fight, and the other half thought Lesnar's wrestling would be too much for the Reem.
Overeem ended up taking the win, as he TKO'd Lesnar in less than two and a half minutes.
With a title fight against Junior dos Santos up next, keep an eye on Overeem in 2012.
Falling: Brock Lesnar
10 of 10With his quick loss and subsequent retirement on Friday, Lesnar's stock is falling way off the board.
In fact, his stock is totally off the board. He made it clear that this was the last time we would see him in the cage. Even if he had won on Friday, he added that he would have only fought one more time at the most.
Admit it, you're gonna miss him.
