UFC 141 Results: 3 Things We Learned from Nate Diaz

Matt SaccaroDec 31, 2011

Nate Diaz wowed the MMA world by outclassing Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, a man who was thought to be the next big thing at lightweight.

Diaz turned in the best performance of his career and taught MMA fans and pundits a thing or two about him.

So what exactly did he show us against Cerrone? Read and find out!

He Has Perfected His Brother's Style

Nate Diaz's striking looked exactly like that of his brother Nick, and that's saying a lot.

Nate Diaz has learned to employ his brother's patented "Stockton Slap" style of MMA-boxing that flusters opponents to no end.

The younger Diaz landed over 200 strikes on his opponent, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, in his most impressive outing to date, proving that his striking has improved immensely and is now a dangerous weapon—perhaps more dangerous than his jiu-jitsu!

He's a Top Lightweight

Nate Diaz made Donald Cerrone look like an amateur, that's not easy to do seeing as Cerrone is one of the best lightweights in the world.

In bearing Cerrone so badly, Diaz showed that he can contend with anyone at lightweight, even number one contender Benson Henderson and champion Frankie Edgar.

He's Not Really That Much of a Punk

3 of 3

Nate Diaz taught us that he can be respectful and a proper sportsman when he wants to be.

He was all middle fingers and rude behavior at the weigh-ins and during the fight, but once it was over he didn't hesitate to shake Cerrone's hand and give him a pat on the back.

Diaz may seem classless and rude, but underneath that surface he's actually respectful.
