NBA Rumors: Latest Trade Buzz on Russell Westbrook, Cam Reddish and More

Jake RillSep 6, 2022

It's been an eventful NBA offseason as some top players have switched teams, impacting the landscape of the league. There have also been tons of rumors surrounding multiple stars, even if not many deals materialized from them.

The Utah Jazz traded both Rudy Gobert (to the Minnesota Timberwolves) and Donovan Mitchell (to the Cleveland Cavaliers). Malcolm Brogdon (Indiana Pacers to Boston Celtics), Dejounte Murray (San Antonio Spurs to Atlanta Hawks) and Christian Wood (Houston Rockets to Dallas Mavericks) were among the other notable names to get dealt.

Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook remains with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are still with the Brooklyn Nets. It's a bit of a surprise that none of them have been traded.

However, there's still time for moves to be made. Teams won't begin training camp until later this month, so deals could still take place.

As trade rumors continue to swirl, here's some of the latest buzz from around the NBA.

Could Lakers Still Trade Westbrook This Month?

It doesn't seem like much has changed on the Westbrook trade market, and perhaps that's why he's still in Los Angeles. However, could the 33-year-old point guard be leaving the Lakers at some point in the near future?

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, teams have asked for two first-round picks from Los Angeles in exchange for Westbrook, but the Lakers have only wanted to include one. But it's "very clear" what teams want, per Buha, although discussions can always change.

"I think they are going to ramp it up [trade talks] before training camp and get more aggressive from what I’ve been told, but whether that aggression includes giving up two first-round picks, I still like they’re going to fight to try to keep that second first-round pick," he told the HoopsHype Podcast.

Buha also reported that the Utah Jazz and the Indiana Pacers are the "most likely destinations" for Westbrook in a potential trade, with the former being "more likely." For now, though, he remains on the L.A. roster.

There's always a chance that won't change, either. Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reported that the Lakers are "comfortable" going into training camp with Westbrook on their roster and they're "hoping new coach Darvin Ham can unlock increased intensity on defense while another season with [LeBron] James and [Anthony] Davis makes life easier on offense."

So, after an offseason filled with Westbrook rumors, there isn't a ton of clarity yet. And it will be interesting to see what happens between now and the Lakers' 2022-23 season opener on Oct. 18.

Reddish May Be Looking to Get Dealt from Knicks

Cam Reddish has only played 15 games for the New York Knicks after arriving in a trade from the Atlanta Hawks in January. And it's possible he won't be playing any more games with the Knicks moving forward.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the 23-year-old would like "a change of scenery" because he is looking for somewhere he can have a larger role. During his brief time in New York, he averaged only 14.3 minutes per game (well below his career average of 24.9) and scored 6.1 points per contest.

Berman reported that Reddish was "leery" of getting traded to the Knicks at the time because of a "logjam" at the wing spots. New York also may not have had a clear direction for him, either.

"The Knicks didn’t have a plan for him," an NBA source told Berman. "They traded for him without one and still don’t have one. He would like a bigger opportunity somewhere."

One potential trade partner for New York? The Lakers, according to Berman, who reported that the team has interest in the three-year NBA veteran. However, it isn't clear what Los Angeles may have to give up in order to acquire Reddish.

Jazz Possibly Working to Make More Trades?

The Jazz are clearly entering a new era after trading both Gobert and Mitchell earlier this offseason. They were Utah's star players and big reasons for its success in recent years, helping it reach the playoffs each of the past six seasons.

With only a few weeks to go until training camp, the Jazz may not be done making moves. Their roster could look even more different when players report later this month.

The Athletic's Tony Jones reported that Utah has "engaged in trade conversations around some remaining pieces," with the list of players being brought up including Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson. Maybe the Jazz won't end up moving any of the three, but it at least seems like a possibility.

Bogdanovic, Conley and Clarkson have each spent the past three seasons in Utah. They've been part of the core that helped the Jazz finish first in the Northwest Division each of the past two years, including in the 2021-21 campaign, when they earned the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

If Utah moves any of these players (or others), it will likely add more draft picks, which could help the franchise continue to rebuild and grow moving into the future.
