Liverpool FC to Snatch Gary Cahill from Chelsea FC: Is It Required?
Gary Cahill has been a long-term target for a number of top Premier League clubs—Chelsea being at the front of that queue.
There have been rumours of him moving for a year-and-a-half now. When nothing materialised over the summer, it was almost sure that Bolton would sell him in January rather than risk losing him for free in the summer of 2012, as he has only six months left on his contract at Bolton.
Yesterday, the official site of the Premier League reported that a fee had been agreed between Bolton and Chelsea for the transfer of Gary Cahill, with only personal terms to be agreed between Chelsea and Cahill.

However, yesterday the Guardian reported that despite the £7 million fee being agreed between the clubs, the transfer is still some distance away as the talks have stalled over personal terms which include Gary Cahill's wage demands.
This has alerted other clubs, who also want to sign the highly-rated centre-back.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool is trying to cash in on the situation by trying to get Cahill to agree to a move closer to home to Liverpool.
Cahill has been one of the highest-rated centre-backs in England for a long time now. His playing style, which is a great combination of pace and strength in the air, makes him a valuable asset for any team.
One would expect that Cahill's first choice would be Chelsea, given that he would be able to form a partnership with his England teammate John Terry and would be more assured of first-team football.
At Liverpool, on the other hand, the partnership of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel is going strong and it would be difficult for him to break into the first team as soon as he arrives.
Liverpool had signed Sebastian Coates in the summer and also have Jamie Carragher in the squad as the recognised centre-backs.
They also have two youngsters waiting in the wings in the form of Martin Kelly and Danny Wilson.
Though it is expected that as time wears on, Carragher would get progressively less playing time, he is still good enough to fill the void in case of an injury to Agger or Skrtel until the time that the young Coates, Kelly and Wilson mature into first-team footballers.
With Liverpool's excellent defensive showing in the league this season, signing a centre-back should not be on the top of the wish list for the club right now.
Hence, one's money should still be on Cahill's move to Chelsea. A last-minute move by Liverpool seems to be both unlikely as well as unwarranted.
