Eagles' Betting Guide Ahead of 2022 NFL Season

Jake RillAug 8, 2022

There should be plenty of excitement for Philadelphia Eagles fans heading into the 2022 campaign. The team got back to the playoffs last season in its first year under head coach Nick Sirianni, and its roster has only improved since then.

Over the offseason, the Eagles added a top-tier offensive playmaker (wide receiver A.J. Brown) and greatly improved their defense via free agency and the draft. So after going 9-8 and earning an NFC wild-card berth last season, they could be poised for even bigger things in 2022.

Whether you're a Philadelphia fan or not, there's money to be made with early bets regarding the team's upcoming season. And it could be wise to place a few before their opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 11.

Here's a full Philadelphia betting guide to help as you considering placing wagers for the 2022 NFL season. (All odds come from DraftKings Sportsbook.)

Odds to Win NFC East: +165

The Eagles aren't the betting favorite to win the NFC East entering the 2022 season, as their odds to do so are at +165 (bet $100 to win $165). The Dallas Cowboys have slightly better odds of winning the division crown at +135.

However, Philadelphia may be the better team to bet on, because it should have a decent chance of winning the NFC East. It would mark the first time the Eagles have finished first in the division since 2019.

There's been quite a bit of parity in the NFC East over the past decade-plus. In fact, there hasn't been a repeat division champion since Philadelphia won the crown four straight years from 2001-04.

Washington won the NFC East in 2020, then Dallas captured the title in 2021. It could easily be the Eagles' turn to seize back the crown this year. So strongly consider placing a bet on them to do so ahead of the season.

Over/Under Win Total: 9.5

There's better odds of the Eagles finishing with more than 9.5 wins (-130; bet $130 to win $100) than there is of them ending up with less than that (+110). That makes sense, considering they went 9-8 in 2021 and have since gotten better.

The Eagles have won nine games in three of the past four seasons, and they haven't recorded double-digit victories since going 13-3 in 2017, when they went on to win the franchise's first Super Bowl title. But they're in a good position to notch at least 10 victories in 2022.

Philadelphia has some winnable games early on its schedule. Its first four matchups are against opponents that had losing records last season: the Detroit Lions (3-13-1), Minnesota Vikings (8-9), Washington Commanders (7-10) and Jacksonville Jaguars (3-14).

If the Eagles quickly build some momentum, they could be on their way to a strong season. Feel confident in betting on them to win at least 10 games, as they should be better on both sides of the ball than they were last year, which will produce results in the win column.

Jalen Hurts over 22.5 passing touchdowns (-115)

Jalen Hurts' third NFL season has the potential to be his best yet. It's certainly not unreasonable to think he could take another step forward and throw 23 touchdown passes, which would be seven more than he had during the 2021 campaign.

The Eagles' receiving corps is much improved because of the addition of A.J. Brown. His presence will also likely make it easier for the quarterback to get the ball to other playmakers, such as wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins and tight end Dallas Goedert.

Philadelphia had a run-first offense for much of last season, but part of that was out of necessity because of a subpar receiving corps. Hurts, 24, has the arm to lead a successful aerial attack and should put up his best passing numbers yet, in part because he enters the year with 19 career starts under his belt.

A.J. Brown over 70.5 receptions (+100)

If Brown can stay healthy and play all 17 games during the upcoming season, there's no reason he shouldn't surpass the 70-catch mark. He had 70 receptions in 14 games in 2020 and then recorded 63 catches in 13 games last year.

The Eagles badly needed a true No. 1 wide receiver, and the 25-year-old gives them that. Over his first three NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans, he flashed the potential to be among the most exciting pass-catchers in the league.

Hurts is going to want to get the ball in Brown's hands as much as possible. That should lead to the Ole Miss product recording a new career high in receptions, as he'll get at least 71 catches this year.
