BCS Bowl Predictions: 3 QBs That Must Have Huge Days
Having a huge game in a BCS bowl game will not only make these three quarterbacks a legend at their school, but it will also help their draft stock whenever they enter the NFL draft.
It’s not just a question of will they have a huge game, but rather can they have a huge game on a big stage? The pressure will be intense, but these quarterbacks will shine when the lights are the brightest.
Andrew Luck, Stanford
Luck is playing not only for his second BCS bowl game win, but also to secure himself as one of the top picks in the NFL draft.
He is going against a good passing defense in Oklahoma State, which gave up on average 266 yards per game. However, they only allowed 13 touchdown passes while intercepting opposing quarterbacks 23 times.
Luck’s toughest game this year: Luck went 1-1 in his toughest games when Stanford played USC on the road, and Oregon at home. In those games, Luck had 586 passing yards and six touchdowns.
In the Orange Bowl last year, Luck was nearly perfect, going 18-of-23 for 287 yards and four touchdowns, with a 231.8 QB passer rating.
Luck’s projected final stat line: 28-of-40, 325 yards, two TDs and one interception.
Denard Robinson, Michigan
Denard was the entire Michigan offense this year. His 34 total touchdowns made up for 66 percent of Michigan’s total offense.
It’s safe to say that without Robinson, this Michigan team would not have finished the regular season 10-2, earning a BCS bowl game against Virginia Tech.
The Hokies this year were one of the better defenses in the ACC. Their 17 points per game put them second behind Florida State. It will be interesting to see if Robinson can get free from this Hokies defense to explode for a huge run or pass.
Robinson’s toughest games this year: Robinson did struggle in two losses when he faced the stifling defenses of Michigan State and Iowa.
However, in Robinson’s final two home games against Nebraska and Ohio State, he had two monster games, passing for five touchdowns and rushing for four touchdowns.
Robinson’s projected final stat line: 14-of-22, 180 yards, two TDs, 95 rushing yards, two TDs.
Russell Wilson, Wisconsin
In 13 games this year, Wilson only had one game in which he threw an interception. After the Michigan State game, Wilson went on to have an insane finish to his year, throwing 15 touchdowns to zero interceptions.
Wilson needs to have a huge game against Oregon in the Rose Bowl, so that he can reassert himself as one of the better quarterbacks coming into the draft.
Wilson’s toughest games this year: In the Big Ten Championship game Wilson had a modest, but big enough day to help the Badgers win.
His 187 yards were okay. However, his three touchdowns and no interceptions were a huge reason why the Badgers prevailed over the Michigan State Spartans.
Wilson’s projected final stat line: 19-of-24, 285 yards and four TDs.
These three quarterbacks will have to have big games for their team to win. Looking at how they performed when it mattered the most this year, it seems like they will be very successful.
