Lakers' LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook Trio to Debut vs. Warriors
LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook will be part of the Los Angeles Lakers' starting lineup together for the first time Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers, who are 0-4 in the preseason, have staggered the off nights given to their Big Three thus far.
With the Lakers roster loaded with veteran pieces—10 guys are 32 or older—the preseason was always bound to be a bit of a struggle. Guys 10-plus years into the NBA know not to exert much energy into these contests when an 82-game slate is upcoming—and arguably don't have that much energy to exert to begin with.
It's no coincidence that 23-year-old Malik Monk has been the team's leading scorer in two of the four preseason games so far.
That said, the Lakers do at least need one tune-up game where their expected starting lineup is together on the floor. There has been some concern all offseason about the fit of Westbrook, James and Davis with none of them being elite three-point shooters. Westbrook and James are also most effective when they have the ball in their hands; Westbrook, in particular, sees his effectiveness evaporate off the ball.
These are issues the Lakers will work out as the regular season goes on, but it'll be good to see where they're at in their progression before games start counting.
