WWE News: Michael Cole's Commentary a Source of Backstage Concern in WWE
Commentary in the WWE is nowhere near what it used to be.
Long gone are the days of announcing that actually adds to the WWE product or duos with both a quality heel and an interesting baby face. Instead, we are forced to watch and listen to rather mundane announce teams that are a far cry from the days of Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon or Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler.
It’s almost a consensus among fans that the worst WWE announcer currently on TV is the insufferable Michael Cole, and it appears as if WWE officials are finally starting to take notice of how his announcing is hurting the WWE product.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
"WWE officials held a meeting last week after the RAW ratings came in where Michael Cole's commentary was discussed. According to F4Wonline.com, TV ratings patterns show fans have little interest in seeing anyone on TV besides the top Superstars. Consideration was given to maybe that's because of Cole burying the talents for the past year.
"
It’s about damn time.
While it’s one thing to have a heel announcer show favoritism toward heels and to be antagonistic toward baby faces, it’s a whole different ball game to have Cole blatantly rip baby faces on a consistent basis. When he bashes Daniel Bryan for having no charisma or Zack Ryder for being a “goofball,” it’s not doing anyone any favors.
As much as we try to tune out Cole, fans do hear what he has to say, and we are not going to want to watch a guy compete or cut a promo if Cole constantly criticizes that guy and points out his flaws.
As “the voice of the WWE,” Cole has the power to influence the way fans view the superstars and if he’s going to be a heel, he needs to find a way to get heat without making baby faces out to be total d-bags.
Cole is, in fact, burying WWE performers on air, which is equivalent to an NFL coach holding a press conference and saying, “Man, my quarterback sucks. He can’t throw the deep ball, and has no idea how to avoid the rush.”
If the coach has no faith in his quarterback, how are that team's fans going to have faith in him? Well, quite simply, they aren’t.
The same thing is going on with Cole and the WWE’s baby faces.
If a guy who calls Raw, Smackdown and pay-per-views spends all his time ripping on the WWE’s good guys, how are we supposed to get behind them?
Just like with the NFL quarterback, we won’t.
