Peyton, Eli Manning's Nephew Arch Offered Scholarship by Clemson
The recruiting battle for quarterback Arch Manning—the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning—now involves some of the top programs in the nation.
On Sunday, Clemson joined the list of schools to offer a scholarship to the Class of 2023 prospect after the QB toured campus with head coach Dabo Swinney.
“I spoke with his dad, and I think it went great,” Manning's high school coach Nelson Stewart told Grace Raynor of The Athletic. “I think it went as well as it could go. They were able to get a really nice tour of all of the facilities. I’m glad that it seems like he threw really well, which I thought he would. I think it’s great that he got to work directly with coach Swinney.”
The Tigers join Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and USC among the schools trying to land the latest Manning.
At 6'3", 200-pounds, 247Sports ranks Manning the No. 1 quarterback in his class and the No. 3 prospect in the nation overall. In two years of high school ball in New Orleans, Manning has passed for 4,360 yards and 55 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.
Here's how 247's Gabe Brooks evaluated the QB last October:
"Owns the requisite frame with good height and room to add mass. Pro-style passer with good functional athleticism defenses must account for, particularly as a scrambler and off-schedule playmaker. Excels throwing on the move. Capable of effective throws across his body on the run. Shows a quick, smooth, repeatable delivery and consistently stays on top of the ball, especially in the short-to-intermediate passing game, where he thrives. Accurate passer to all levels who can fit deeper throws into zone windows with appropriate mix of touch and velocity. Sixth-sense ability to feel pressure and avoid rushers. Athletic enough to scramble for chunk yardage but almost always looks to throw when breaking the pocket. One-of-a-kind quarterback pedigree that manifests in advanced feel for the game and awareness. Elite QB prospect among the nation's top recruits in the 2023 class. Likely a multi-year impact starter at the Power Five level with early-round NFL Draft potential."
Now Clemson wants in on the action. The Tigers will have to compete with both Ole Miss, the alma mater of Eli and Archie Manning, as well as Peyton's alma mater, Tennessee.
Swinney has a strong recent track record to rely on, however, with his program routinely competing for national titles as well as producing QB stars in Trevor Lawrence—the No. 1 overall pick in 2020—and D.J. Uiagalelei.
The head coach is looking to continue that line with Manning.
