Gunner Kiel to LSU: 3 Reasons the No. 1 QB Made the Perfect Decision
Another top recruit is off the board.
The top quarterback prospect in the country, Gunner Kiel, has decided to commit to LSU. He was also considering Notre Dame and Vanderbilt out of a long list of offers.
Kiel is everything you look for in a quarterback. He's extremely accurate, has mobility to buy himself more time in the pocket and is a leader. He does lack extreme arm strength, but that can improve with time.
The 5-star recruit had offers from several top programs, but here are a few reasons why he made the right decision by becoming a Tiger.
Has a Chance to Start Right Away
1 of 3The Tigers may have two solid quarterbacks right now that they use in Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee, but both of them are seniors.
Sophomore Zach Mettenberger will have a chance to become the starter but may be held back due to maturity issues and lack of experience.
If Kiel was to pick Notre Dame, he would have to compete with Tommy Rees, Andrew Hendrix and Everett Golson.
Kiel has the opportunity to become the starter from day one. As a 5-star recruit, that's really all you can ask for.
Tougher Competition
2 of 3Notre Dame plays some tough teams throughout the year, like Michigan, Michigan State and USC.
But that schedule is nothing compared to what the Tigers and the rest of the SEC plays every season.
When you play for an SEC team, every game is a dog fight—there are no cakewalks.
You have to wake up for every game, because even the teams with a subpar record are extremely talented.
Kile will have the opportunity to compete against the top competition, and that will only improve his stock when it's his time to move on to the next level.
Chance to Win a National Championship
3 of 3This was the easiest decision, because he has the chance to play for SEC Championships and even National Championships right away.
The Tigers are always in the championship hunt and will remain that way with a talented recruiting class coming in and majority of their current team coming back.
Notre Dame is also a talented team, but lately they are better at underachieving than anything else.
A top recruit is used to winning at every level, and when a school like LSU extends an offer, you have to accept it. Don't expect Les Miles and company to go anywhere for a long time.
